Clunge.

Even me, who developed tourettes in the army, finds that word a bit tasteless. I much prefer "totty".

Looking up "numpty" in an online dictionary I found a list of words for stupid and silly people. Usual candidates - Muppet, berk (yes, yes I know) and nimrod.

Nimrod? Seemingly it means "a very stupid person". I don't think I've ever heard that. I must be a nimrod.
never heard that one before either, I associate Nimrod with one of those high flying military surveillance planes (named after a great hunter from greek mythology or the bible?)
and then there of course is is Elgars famous Nimrod

so since when has it meant someone thick?

Those are exactly the same associations it has for me. We're a right pair of nimrods.

Apparently, it's US slang which is why we've not heard it. This made me chuckle: So, coming from an American perspective, it's surprising and strange to find that in the UK it's best known as a type of military (BrE) aeroplane/(AmE) airplane. It sounds like having a plane named (AmE) doofus

Ah, the BAE Doofus, the finest naval surveillance plane we ever had. Far better than the McDonnel-Douglas Numpty.

If memory serves me correctly it was a side effect of a new heart drug that came up (Yes) in clinical trials of the tablets.

That's right, I was working at MSD in Cramlington a few years ago when they told me a similar story about one of their drugs.

Apparently a lot of slap heads who were trialling the drug for it's original purpose (can't remember what that was) noticed that their hair stopped dropping out.

And before you could say, 'Bobby Charlton,' a new anti baldness drug was born.

Have we had Shame on you!!!? It's shouted out so many times these days at various political, confrontational events. I even found myself saying it to my dog the other day after he'd begged for food then walked away after sniffing it and seemed to say 'Mmm, I don't feel hungry now'.

How dare you!

I think hardly anyone ever says that seriously these days.
