One of the 64K
Sealskins
Lined bib tights
Long sleeved base layer
Merino long sleeved top
Altura night vision jacket
Glove liners
Gloves
Buff as a skull cap

I tend towards being cold since losing weight so probably wear more than some, that's pretty much maximum though, the jacket has vent zips on it. I need to stay warm for an hour or so on my commute.

To be honest with you. Thermal leggings under my running tights/leggings, long shorts. Then my body: under armour thermals long sleeve, t shirt (old or worn out) and then a light cycle jacket.

I have seal skin gloves. But they are only good for 45 mins in the cold.

But it's a case of trail and error. I think I feel the cold most then some other people.

I commute all year and good waterproofs were the order of last winter. It just did not stop raining down here in Dorset.

I am pretty much XL in Craft, Endura and Altura so I generally find them accurate but fairly close cut.

Bought the Altura Night Vision this morning from my LBS.

Was surprised to find a Medium was best fit for me as in their Jerseys I take a Large and that's quite a snug but comfortable fit.

The shop even let me take a sit on a lovely new Cannondale Synapse to make sure it was comfortable when on bike.

Lovely jacket with a cracking little LED Pulsing light on the back. Best thing was I had £ 26 in loyalty points on my reward card so picked it up for about £20. Original price was £69.

It might be August but Wednesdays trip into work was freezing first thing.

Would recommend Under Armour - Turtle neck and leggings. Have used it in other sports in snow and its just great, better than any other brand and I tried a few.

I've have some DHB windslam long tights and jacket (these are really, really good at keeping the cold out), along with a base layer takes me down to about 0Deg, arm/leg warmers, buff and skull cap..oh and long fingered gloves are a must! I also have a thin Merino jumper if its goes below freezing.

I am going to take walking and cycling kit suitable for conditions ranging from good summer, to bad autumn, but I am not going to be doing winter in the first week of September ... (I hope!)
You may need to rethink that one. Even I am taking one of my winter weight sleeping bags with me for our camping tour starting a week tomorrow and we are only covering England!
(Lakes. Yorkshire Dales, Northumberland, North York Moors and Peak District). We decided against Scotland this year after last year's weather. 2 days where we were roasted alive and the 'not enough' water problems, followed by 3 days of torrential non-stop rain and not a stitch of dry clothing between us! then gales and snow topped it off and we aborted at Glencoe.

Also if you are up there around the 13-14th September you will need to have your accommodation pre-booked. The Rat Race coast to coast challenge is on that weekend. We 'collided' with it last year and ran into a few issues with accommodation as a result, including campsites! Mind you with the gales bringing trees down camping was the least of our concerns! Though re-reading it you say only the 1st week of September, so you might be luckier with the weather... take the suncream as well!
