Golf isn't a sport, it's a liesure activity, like walking down to the pub an a summer's evening. It baffles me that someone can be paid to do it, and someone else will watch.

Nonsense -that's like saying cycling is merely transport. Golf is a competitive game with a physical performance required -a sport.

What, with swinging two hands, climbing a small minimized versiion of a car and getting a cup about 20 times the size of a golf ball in the end, cycling is much more fun to watch:thanks:

I only got into road cycling last year (41) after not having a road bike since I was 16 (Raleigh Record Sprint, black/gold...loved it, no idea where it went!) and having mountain bikes in my mid 20's so when the tour came on I watched the itv4 highlights and both myself and my wife really got into it.

I had put money on Evans to win (although it turned out the bet was never actually placed!) so I was hoping he would win but was gutted when wiggins crashed out, especially as I learnt he lives in the same town as me! (Chorley).

I don't really watch any other sport, bit of Wimbledon, bit of footie when it's England, bit of f1 if there's nothing else on but as the tour highlights are on an hour every night, it's easy to get caught up in it.

Beats watching all the dire game shows, quiz shows and the dumb down reality shows...

Like a few others, I enjoy the scenery, landscapes and architecture and colour of the TV coverage, plus the entourage of the whole event. The cyclists, support vehicles, camera teams (both motorbike and helicopter), spectators cheering along the route with unusual and imaginitive decorations and signs in the fileds etc.

It can be intriguing with the tactics and breaks (although I don't like the idea of cyclists having radio contact with their DSs) and resulting chases. And the climax of a mass sprint finish or a lone breakee managing to stay clear (just) of the following pack going hell for leather in hot pursuit. Breath-taking stuff.

And, oh, for a drug-free tour.
