I'm asking this as I find watching some sports incredibly boring -I would much rather 'do' than 'watch'. I can however see the merits in watching some sports at the professional level that I would rather do. Golf for instance, watching the form of professionals and the endless examples of what to do and what not to do can only improve my game. Does watching cycling present the same usefulness or is it just enjoyable to watch as you know the amazing effort that they are putting in? I suppose it would resonate more if you yourself raced in similar conditions.

A massive inferiority complex.

Wow. Probably the worst sport to watch. Along with snooker and darts >>>>>>>

Anyway we all know cycling is the new golf. Most have swapped the 18th hole for the cycling cafe. Saying that I did enjoy my two years of being a golf caddy aged 13 / 14 for some excellent golfers.

Loving the tennis at the moment here

I really enjoyed watching last year's TdF because I got very into the competition of it, and found myself supporting certain people and wanting them to do well. I'm completely in awe of how they keep cycling day after day, over what's often difficult terrain and huge distances. (Yes, I know they've trained for it, but I'm still in awe!) There's also the excitement of seeing who's going to crash, or cause someone else to crash, and the sprint finish on some of the stages. A few years ago (2009, I think) the weather was lousy, and I watched a lot of it while I was on the turbo. I got a fantastic workout without even realising it. For the last 2 Tours, I've also (without fail) looked at the beautiful French countryside and roads, and wished we'd stopped there instead of carrying on to Spain. I also watched the Giro earlier this summer and wished we'd gone to Italy. Then, I go out cycling myself, and I'm glad we came here. So, it's just a great experience for me.

If I had a choice, I'd rather go exploring those places myself, but I can't right now, so watching the pros cycle them is the next best thing.

In the TDF's case I get swept along by the thrilling circus of it all including the helicopter shots of ancient spires and winding roads. It's pure dead brilliant by the way!

Watching (I dont) a road race is incredibly boring. However the highlights are where it's at. All the falls, crashes, over take maneuvers, The Looks.

The only I do like about TdF however is using the TV screen as a screen saver: all those colours and stuff are great.

Golf isn't a sport, it's a liesure activity, like walking down to the pub an a summer's evening. It baffles me that someone can be paid to do it, and someone else will watch.
