Thanks for replies - i'm not confident for the lycra look !!!! but hoping to get into town to buy some 'baggies' next week, i bought plenty of bright T shirts in UK last week and also got some nice little socks that are meant to soak up sweat - all i need now is the sun xx

I started off with a cheap long sleeve cycling top (oversized lycra) and mountain bike shorts. Have a selection of gear now but go with bibs 3/4 length or knee length shorts and lycra top. I have wear and tear on the hips and belly so not happy with tight stuff, but once I'm on the bike I couldn't care less, my own comfort is more important than any form of vanity.

At the end of the day wear whats comfortable for you on the ride, if it's not comfortable, change it, don't give 2 stuffs what other people think, whether they are on bikes or not!

I started out with jeans and normal stuff. I still wear them commuting and going round Richmond Park at weekends. It has the benefit of rendering me invisible to other more serious cyclists.
On some Friday midnights, I go over to the dark side and don my lycra. By dawn, I'm safely back in my coffin behind heavily drawn curtains.

I wore baggy shorts and a running top from Sports Direct. Then I got some padded shorts from there too and I've never gone back!

I wear baggies at the moment but that's because I have put on so much weight I really don't fit into my lycra shorts and bibs! I always wear mens jerseys to give me a little more room on the boosum

At the end of the day it doesn't matter what you wear as long as you are comfortable and feel comfortable that's more important than others perceptions.

progression of normal clothes, trackies and t-shirt, 2nd hand cycling clothes, cheap cycling clothes and now I'd like to go back to normal looking clothes which are cycling suitable, so I don't look like every other fat MAMIL.

When on my own, I wear sweat wicking athletic shirt and Jamaica shorts with cycling "liner" shorts. When with the club I wear lycra club jersey and shorts and cap. Near Bloomington, red and yellow is one club(Wheelers), pink and black is another(Bloomington Cycle). No accounting for color sense. I am the only person who wears black socks, and am identified by the same.

Intriguing, what colour socks does everyone else wear? And do you not feel this is discrimination?

I have four pairs of cycling socks, three white and one black. The white ones are more comfortable but the when i wear the black ones my socks match my shoes, my pedals and my crankshafts and it just feels more proper.
