In fact I once adjusted a very nice young lady's gears for her on her new supermarket MTB, her chain was jammed between the drop out and smallest sprocket.
adjusting someone elses gears, for free, on a BSO, not in a proper workshop with proper tools, without a workstand!
Cheers Ed

I live in hope that one day, I'll meet a pretty commuter who needs her bottom bracket adjusted (after all, I was born with a built-in bottom bracket adjustment tool).
i think you may struggle as a rode my old BSO for 6 months or so on a BB with over 10mm probably of play!

Since the day i fell over not being able to free my foot from the peddle due to a loose cleat i've always carried an Allen key to tighten the things should they become lose. Disposable gloves are also a must as one of my bikes has an ancient and very oily chain that likes to come off every now and then.

I carry loads of tools, but it all depends on location as where I cycle it's away from a bus service and away from family so no lift is available, so I have become self reliant and it all fits in a small zip up case and a very small drybag.

Well, write it down boy ......
You carry your own insecurities when out.
For some this means a whole load of justincase things, while others carry nothing.
I'm somewhere in between.

We have a winner - close the thread now!

PS I once came across a rider walking a wounded bike on a local audax event. I stopped to ask if I could help. He asked if I carried a spare set of forks in my bag ...

Not enough routine maintenance!

I generally carry the tool I last used on the bike on my (short) commute, my theory being that the thing I last adjusted is most likely to come loose

In a small Scott saddle bag:

Inner tube.
CO2 cylinder.
Inflator with another CO2 cyinder reversed inside it.
Quick tyre patches.
2 x tyre levers.
Quick link.
Multi tool.

Jersey pockets:

Cash.
£2.99 phone.
Castelli jacket if rain looks possible.

For yesterday's wind-propelled Dales ride I carried some extra weight:

Visa card.
Train times written on a Cornflakes packet lid.
Car key widget thingy.
