And On That Bombshell by Richard Porter
He worked on Old Top Gear all the way up to the most recent The Grand Tour. It's a really interesting look into the workings of one of the most successful UK television programmes of all time. He's got a wealth of stories from over the years, and there's some really interesting backstage parts from the show.
One of my favourite stories is how they came to have Michael Schumacher on the show, a huge deal at the time and how MS utterly commited to what they wanted him to do, true professional.
One thing he addresses head on is of course the scripted nature of TG, and how some of the best parts of the show came together accidentally and some of the worst were when they were trying too hard.
Top Gear 2002 - 2015 really was lightning in a bottle.

Forcing myself to read this as I believe it's unhealthy to read only things that affirm my own point of view and beliefs - that's the way to develop a very narrow and insular view of the world. Very noble of me, I'm sure.
The downside is that his writing is as needlessly flowery and obscure as his spoken word so it's very hard going. Trying desperately not to bin it off before getting to the first photos.
