Well, this rear hub's dead...

I don't know if the same holds true for your hub, but I have heard of it happening on a Rohloff hub - where the outer casing was damaged. The actual hub gears were OK and was 'simply' transfered to a new case, wheel rebuilt etc (with Rohloff this was a warranty repair and done free of charge).
