I'm embarrassed to ask this question. I have a new bike with d12 GRX 12 speed. I need to set up the E-tube app. It's definitely di2 as I've ridden it!!!

The first instruction is "press and hold the function button until the LED flashes blue"

Is this the function button? Centre and slightly below "GRX." (To the left of my wife's shoes!). The button doesn't depress in anyway. There are no visible LEDs.

The on bike shifting is great. However my first impression of the Shimano app and set up is that it's crap. The diagrams are too small to be readable. It's really taken the shine off di2 for me, within 24 hours.

The guy on here seems to press a button on the rear derailleur and you see a blue light flashing. Near the end of the video.

Looks like the function button is located on the rear of the mech, near where the control cable goes in, and that's also where the LED indicator is.

Ah, ha! Brilliant Mo. Thank you. I'm reminded of a song:

"We learned more from a three minute record, baby
Than we ever learned in school"

That guy should work for Shimano. I'll have another go when I get home.

Should have gone old fashioned ;)
I agree and I resisted di2 for years. I had a very big RTC in June. One injury was three broken fingers on the right hand. My consultant was a cyclist. He advised using di2 on the new bike as there's a possibility, especially in winter, the fingers would stiffen and ache on a long ride.

He was right. From a comfort perspective the change is right for me. The Shimano app though is awful. 🤣

I've got a few bikes with di2, and have been using it for a decade. In all that time I've used the Shinano app precisely 4 times on 3 bikes.

You really don't need to use it more than once to be honest.

@multitool thank you. Now I've seen @Mo1959 video it's clear I don't need the app. Just need to press the almost invisible button to see the battery charge level.

I had expected much better from Shimano. Disappointing. The kit costs a fortune and they can't be bothered to delivery a decent app or a system that connects quickly and simply.

Plenty of companies that could teach them a lesson.

Honestly, the only time I've needed the app is to change the configuration of the buttons/levers. From memory you can toggle the 3 shift modes using the mech button. The only other time you might need the app is if you want to change when the rear/front autoshifts.

The only marginal complaint I have with the app is that sometimes it takes a while to sync.

Like you, it took me ages to find the button on the mech

Hmm, I need a consultant like that.
