Just joined the forum for some support and info, im 24 and currently weigh 255lbs, im 6ft2 and pretty broad and quiet well built due to my physical job, however I carry a lot of stomach fat and im pretty lazy. So I figured what better way to lose weight that to get back on my bike, im looking for some advice towards losing the weight, and tips or anybody that's been in the same position as me, thankyou

Track your calories.
Don't kid yourself that an easy paced 1 hour ride will grant you the credit to scoff lots of extra.
Try to work reasonably hard when you're on your rides.
Drink more water.
When you get the momentum going with the loss, don't ease up. It will be difficult but keep pushing it hard.

Good luck with it

The food side of things I have had nailed down for the past month, ive currently lost 17lbs just by eating healthy, I wanted to introduce some exercise. My plan was to ride Monday/Wednesday and Fridays, with a long ride every other Saturday when the missus is in work, so on Tuesdays and Thursdays im going to run/fast walk, how much distance should I be going at first?

Start small and build up in stages. I would suggest 3 mile incriments until 20, then 5 mile jumps, then 10 mile jumps when you get to 40. When you can do 70 or maybe 80, you can do 100. You will be surprised at how far you can ride a bike, as long as you build up the stamina and get used to sitting on a bike for several hours.

Don't be afraid to mix things up and take rest days, of course. Stretching, after a ride may also not be a bad idea, at least to begin with.

Thanks for the help mate, I cant actually start riding until Monday as the bikes is at Halfords getting serviced and im not picking it up until Saturday. The seat felt a bit tough hmmm may have to upgrade that. This might sound like a stupid question but im a bit worried about the bike and tyres being able to hold my weight, should it cope?

Tyres will be fine - just make sure you keep them inflated regularly. Invest in a track pump, asap.
The saddle will feel uncomfy at first because you are not used to sitting on a bike. Get some cheap padded cycling shorts (try Decathlon). Put normal baggy shorts over the top of them, if you feel self conscious (it's what i did for years). Once your backside gets used to it, if the saddle still feels uncomfy, then think about switching it out.

I have a cpl of pairs of the MF longs and 1 pair of bib shorts. TBH the fit isn't good and I would go with Decathlon for a cheap starter pair (they are about 8 quid). Not exactly going to break the bank though is it... So, might be worth trying out the MF ones if you don't have a Decathlon close by?

Ive read that the sizes are always different to what your actual waist is, Im a 38 waist so should I go for a large?
