Water came out from tyre pump valve....

The tyre on my bike has a Schrader valve. As I pushed in the pump's connector with the valve, water started starting spraying out from the valve while the tyre's air was leaking out. Bear in mind, the pump was in the 'unlocked' state.

I left the pump unlocked while connected to the tyre's valve just to see how much water would come out. It wasn't much (2 table spoonfuls), the water stopped spraying out well before the tyre was fully deflated.

Can anyone explain why this has happened?

I assume that must mean the water was inside the tyre, how did that happen?

I left my bike out yesterday for a few hours when it was pouring with rain, but unless there's a punctate in the tyre, surely rainwater can't get inside. And I'm sure there's no punctate because I've ridden the bike and it feels fine, no air has come out after I've just re-inflated it.

Must have been water in whatever pump was used for inflating the tyre at some previous inflation, and it has been pumped into your tube along with air.

Did you use a compressor to inflate your tyre as compressors produce water which builds up in the air tank and have to be drained daily or after each use.

Some compressors have a water trap or filter installed in the line to help prevent water and oil contaminating the work, especially for spraying purposes.

These filters also have to be drained as water will eventually build up and contaminate the work.

not a compressor, just an ordinary track pump

I don't think it's that. The pump I used is almost brand new. I've only used it once before and that was about 2 months ago. No water occured then. The pump has always been stored inside my room.

Water to some degree will always condense out of air when you compress it. A bit of water is quite normal in tubes that have been refilled lots.

When we was kids we used to pump up our tyres using a pump in a bucket of water to give us water filled tyres... Rock hard and weighed more than the bike. But hey we had fun experimenting and crashing.
