Are you in a union at work? if you are, you would be better off explaining to the shop steward what has happened and see what they say, if you aren't google ACAS and send your local office an email explaining it all.
Place has no unions. There is a industry union but its not recognized in my work place as no ones apart of it.

Go to HR first, if these people were interviewing you without their knowledge then they are stuffed, if HR did know and you were not informed in writing before hand of the interview they are also stuffed.

As a cell leader I have been involved in sorting out disputes myself, and you have to be very careful to do things by the book just in case it goes wrong and ends up at a tribunal.

Really? I'm not sure I understand where you're coming from with that comment. Short of a physical or verbal assault, I can't see why a comment made outside the workplace should result in any sort of talking to off a manager.
It doesn't matter very much, these days, where the so-called offending comnent is made only that it is made directly to a work colleague. If the offended party then complains to their employer only a few would take no action all these days. I am not saying it is "right" I am saying how it is these days.

But don't mind me, I only have to do this **** for a living. ;) And I am a current Unite member of many years standing and ex shop steward.

Telling a colleague at the bus stop that God is a load of bunkum while wearing your bishop's mitre?

go and complain about what she said! An Asian girl once asked my brother what he thought of Muslim full face/headwear. He said he thought it was the same as wearing a balaclava as you don't see anything but eyes, so its unsociable. She complained he was racist to the boss and had compared it to terrorism. and he ended up leaving his job bcoz he was worried he's get sacked it went so far. Really upset him bcoz he considered the girl a friend.

According to my sechdule it went under as a HR meeting. That being said I have no idea of company policy but I can look it up.

If you came out of the meeting confused about what you were accused of then the meeting has failed, as Snorri said, take advice, or go to HR and ask for clalification.

I still don't see that the company should be involved with anything outside work, if they did they would have to start monitoring facebook. I know one of my work mates posts some racist any mysoginist stuff whilst being entirely grown up and reasonable at work. My HR dept wouldn't go any where near that.

in a different job I went in to one to one meeting with an area manager once with the company hand book and my area manager and he said "you can ignore that the procedures have been superceded there is a new copy" .... to which I replied.... really? I asked for this copy from H.R last week for this meeting so this must be the new one then:smile:
