Hey,

Contact the company you purchased the bicycle from (Be polite) and ask them if you can get this persistant problem rectified (at their expence) at your local bike shop! They may agree to your request? Worth a try.
Trying that in the morning mate, wish me luck.

Prowheel Double Chainset with Alloy Cranks <LI>Cartridge Bottom Bracket Set

Found the above info on the manufacturers website, does this help with identfiying the bb size? Would be good to know what other chainsets are compatible as i am nowlooking at upgrading after xmas, yeah i'll be getting it fixed but doubt i'll trust it to not go again.

Spoke to the supplier today, decent bloke, the answer to my question is no,my LBC cant do the repair on warranty,he's going to see if he can get a replacement bb and arms sent out to avoid me sending the whole bike back, will just leave me to fit the parts. Are there any special tools to remove the bb,its a taper fit.

The problem is that the crank bolt wasn't tightened hard enough when the bike was assembled. Riding on it has damaged the (aluminum) crank on the (steel) axle by rounding it out. It's now completely buggered. A Nyloc nut will not fix it (even if such a thing was available in the correct size - which I doubt very much).

It's a not uncommon occurance and can be directly attributed to a failure at the assembly stage. If it was my bike I'd be wondering what else they failed to assemble correctly...

This is why people like me keep banging on about not buying bikes in boxes.

You need a new LH crank. If they send an identical one it'll bolt straight on. If they send a similar but different model they'll have to send both left and right cranks. At which point you'll want to get thee to a LBS as it's highly unlikely that the chainline will be identical so there will be some front mech tweaking required.

And then send them the bill. It's not really acceptable for them to expect you to fit these parts yourself, especially since even they don't appear to be up to the job of doing it correctly themselves. I'd be inclined to have them undertake a full PDI and charge it to the supplier.

I know what your saying but my main concern is that i have upgraded a few bits on the bike and unsure if it has invalidated the warranty,i doubt it has but you can just never tell. The only reason the supplier offered to order and send me the replacement parts was down to me really expressing the fact i did'nt want to send the bike away and be left without it for weeks on end.I dont mind carrying out the repair and if i do have probs then i know my LBS eill come to the rescue

Unless you'd replaced the cranks, BB or bolts I'd argue very strongly that the replacement of a few components does not invalidate a bike's warranty. I worked in cycle retail for twenty three years and this was never raised by any warranty dept as an issue.
