I do lots of walking too. I have owned dogs in the past so didn’t have much choice, but even since losing my last one 7 years ago and deciding I didn’t want another, I still do lots of walking. Just out of interest I just checked my Strava profile and I’ve walked 1,860 miles this year. Probably hit 2,000 for the year. It’s amazing how it mounts up getting one or two walks in a day.

Wow Mo, that's as many as Charlie and Craig walked combined!

I've taken up waking too.....

Mostly for my mental health over the past year when I have had the worst year of my life.

I tend to walk on Sunday afternoons as it's the time I struggle most not seeing my family.

Mainly around Haworth over to hebden bridge etc.

It's low level exercise so doesn't make me sweaty, allows one to think and I'm less likely to injure compared to running or cycling.

What do people use to monitor their walks

I use Strava but only because I use it for cycling as well - it also allows my wife to see where I am which might be useful at some point !

but I know there are other available - just wondering what people use

Withings stuff, I started in late 2014 and have been using their devices ever since. 30 + miles of walking this week - about what I'll do most weeks. Mutt loves it too

The other great thing about walking is that it's very much a low cost exercise as the only thing you really need is comfortable shoes.

My hospital consultant friend is always giving out about some of her overweight/unfit patients who endlessly come up with excuses such as not being able to afford gym membership for not taking exercise, yet are apparently resistant to actually walking which is free.

Of course, some people feel unsafe walking in rural areas due to Muppet drivers.

Garmin Fenix 6, as that's what I happen to have.

I make sure to walk as well as cycle every week. I also do body weight exercises. People often also get a shock if they walk up a hill when they have only walked on tame pavement or gravel tracks. Walking wirks a whole set of muscles, ligament and tendons that cycling doesn’t really touch. Plus good for skeleton, your back etc.

I enjoy a good walk but if I'm walking a lane I mostly cycle down, I find it infuriating how long it actually takes to walk it.
Same here, which is why I sometimes end up jogging; worrisome as that's a gateway to the world of running, which I want no part of...
