You did the right thing.

I used to work in an open plan office. Building work started just outside, and an email came round apologising for the noise .. it got worse and worse. The ground shuddered, the air screamed. I phoned the head of estates, and said that if I wasn't relocated to a more reasonable environment by lunchtime, then I would work from home.

By 14:00 is was in my very own, quiet office!!

I think most people would feel a bit upset in similar circumstances. You shouldn't be expected to spend much time moving this stuff IMO.
