I have been working from home 3 days a week for a few weeks now, for various reasons. I walked in to my office this morning to find my desk buried under boxes and computer monitors under the desk, i could nowhere near it. we have a storage issue at work and things sit on a landing but we had a chrimbo fete and the tree is now on the landing this stuff could have gone elsewhere, so i turned around and have come home telling them i wont be back until i have somewhere to work, right or wrong?

Why didn't you make some space yourself?

It's not even possible they're trying to tell you something...?

(Don't know your circs, obviously, but generally speaking I'd say this mightn't be the best time to start making ultimatums.)

i am not looking for justification. maz i clearded that desk over a year ag t o mke my space why should i come in to work and have to spend 2 hours moving stuff from my desk?
sweetpea no its not like that they arent trying to tell me anything i am the only person in the place who can do the job. its not an ultimatum as i said i work from home most days, i was bloody annoyed that they think they can dump all this crap on my desk and i will move it, i guess they just expect me to move it all and carry on, again why should i, sheer laziness put it there in the first place

So whose stuff is it? Did they realise it was your desk? Get them to shift it.

dangerous attitude.... there is ALWAYS someone else who can do your job....

so if you aint a director or partner where you are ..be gratefeul you can work from home... some of us don't have a choice in the matter...

I have ended up having to work short term contracts yet again...so the desk I work at is NEVER mine in the long run....combine that with having to source new work twice or 3 times a year, I have got other stresses than finding a table has a got a Xmas rooted to it

that includes f@@@kwits on our roads making me brake and lose time on me training runs......

ravenz, i know that, but they would need to have a very good reason to let me go, the changes i have brought to that place and the contacts and work i have done. i know i am lucky to work at home no dispute there. it just bloody annoyed me this morning and i decided to take a stand. a luxury to have my own desk? i dont think so. like i said i cleared that space to make a desk room.

sounds like you need a heart to heart with buddy in charge .. people do get very territorial about work spaces.. but yup there should be at least one desk kept available so that you can work there.. mind yu working from home keeps you out of office gossip!

I dont know if it is still the fashion, but when I worked for a large American company, it was the directive that desks were kept annonymous to a large extent,, made it easier to shift people about!
