Ha ha maybe, I need to buy a decent turntable. You know what I meant though, about them all sounding exactly the same. I've never heard a mega expensive cd player, so can't comment on that...

That's why I like the Arcam amp's they add a bit of warmth to a digital source. I also auditioned the Audiolab 8000A, at the same price point as the Alpha 9, back in 1999. This sounded far too clinical to my ears with a CD player. Everybody to their own though...
I've had a QUAD Pre/Power since 1987, originally a second hand 33/303 I then added a 2nd 303 in about 1999 and then changed the Pre-amp/Contol Unit to a 44 about 4yrs back, I've posted this picture a couple of times but it shows my settings to play CDs at regular volumes,

Slight treble boost on the 'Tilt' control, one notch on the Bass Boost' to compensate and a touch of 'Filter' at 10Khz to tame digital 'harshness'

I've just spent the night in a rather nice B&B, where I was delighted to note that the communal lounge had all sorts of things available for the guests to make use of, including an A&R Cambridge A60, aLinn Sondek 12 and a poker set.

I think it was the same firm all along, but was rebranded as Kenwood as time went buy. The Kenwood name was made up IIRC, rather than named after a person. To this day they're still a well respected ham radio manufacturer.

I used to have an A60 and a Linn. Still have the Linn, but I never really liked the A60 despite it being very well regarded at the time - swapped it for a Mission Cyrus soon after I got it which did me well for decades - though needs repair now finally. Got an (equally old) Meridian amp now.

Never owned a poker set though. I just like cash on the table as it's just more satisfying !
And I know what a pound coin or 50p is worth so I don't have to refer to a list to decide what a blue or red chip is worth

No change to my stuff in the intervening 5 years because no need - but I did get my Zingali speaker drivers re-foamed very successfully, once I found a company that specialised. Made me realise that all drivers aren't equal, even if they look very similar - so I sold the stand-ins

I was into building speakers a few years ago. I made a pair of 3 way Kef concertos from their plans (not a kit).
There were excellent, incredible presence and weight to the sound. Too big though so I redesigned them into smaller cabinets which was ok but I ended up ebaying the drivers.
I now have a Sugden A28 amp from about 1982 with a Marantz CD52 and Kef coda 70 speakers.
Sounds nicely detailed and clean.

I have a Pioneer system I bought in 1984, is that vintage? It never gets used these days, I either listen to the radio, or YouTube on the TV or laptop.
Prior to that I had an unfinished amplifier I made from ILP modules, and before that, a Rogers Cadet salvaged from an old radiogram, with a Garrard SP25 MkIV, Goldring G800, Bi-Pre-Pak preamp, and a speaker I made myself.

I used to have a National HRO, now that's vintage! It would be worth a tidy sum now if I hadn't given it away.

My mates dad had a pair of Castle Howard speakers back in the 80s - what a great sound! Better than any of the Mission/Dynaudio stuff I have owned.
