Thorens td 160 mk2 and some Leak Sandwitch speakers. Bog standard 80s pioneer amp. Kind of vintage in a way I suppose the speakers are the oldest among that lot. The deck needs work tbh.

Oh and got a 60s Sansui Valve receiver which again needs some work buzzes on one channel.

Not that old but I have had an Arcam Alpha 9 amplifier for around 14 years now. Great amplifier I much preferred it to the Audiolab 8000a amp that I auditioned at the same time which sounded a bit sterile for my tastes. The only problem is that the input selector switch on these ends up getting noisy and the sound breaks up after a while. I have already had the switch replaced once and it is starting to go again. My brother has the earlier version of this amp, the Delta 290 and that suffers the same issue. Worth replacing as it cost me £500 back then and I love the detailed warm sound, and it has a made in the UK sticker on it which is rare to see these days.

I still like to throw together a mix tape for no other reason than it makes me happy. Got a pretty crap tape deck tbf could do with investing into something better.

I'm not starting on this subject as my system is going into storage for a year.
Was looking forward to adding a turntable too

I had a Sugden amplifier and preamplifier pair of units donated to me by a friend when turning the volume knob creating a crackling sound through the speakers. I went on to purchase something weird and expensive along with something that was a notch or two 'better' than a Linn Sondek and I made do with the Sugden for fifteen years or so. My wife hated it as it could never be described as aesthetically pleasing. It pleased her when one channel ceased to operate and I placed it on Ebay expecting to get £20 - £30 and was gobsmacked to get £250 despite it being in need of repair..

I'm happy with a set up purchased from Richer Sounds as I don't have the patience to strain to hear the superior audio delivery of a system whose specifications sheets promise audio performance which might be statistically much better than 'lesser systems' but in practical terms are inaudible to the average punter.

Crap ones do. A decent 90s three head machine will still set you back over a hundred quid generally. Real problem now is getting anyone to fix it.

I really never expected that, still I know that decent 90's hi-fi stuff still makes decent money. My amp does, but I'm not selling it.

Nothing wrong with that, for example the Cambridge Audio stuff is cracking gear. I've got an Azur 540c CD player and for a player that cost £150 I am amazed by both the sound which is top drawer and the build quality for the price is amazing. Even the remote has a heavy metal front and is like picking up a small brick, compared to the usual crappy little plastic ones its superb. I agree with what you are saying about noticing the difference between more expensive gear. I swapped my player over in my brothers system which is a fairly expensive Arcam Delta 290 Integrated amp and also a Delta 290 power amp, bi amping some very good floor standing missions that cost about £700 in the late 90's. I compared it to his CD player a Marantz CD6000 KI Signature that cost around £500 in the 90's. I honestly could hardly tell any difference at all. Maybe the Marantz sounded the tiniest bit more open, but it also sounded a bit thinner and a little sterile and I preferred the slightly upbeat sound of the Azur 540c. I guess it depends what your music tastes are and your ears, and the acoustics of your listening room. My brothers system is not top end, but not budget either, probably about £2400 at the time (mid to late 90's) including decent cables. When my Arcam amp gives up the ghost I think I will probably just replace it with a Cambridge Audio, if their amps are as good as their cd players that is.
