Sennheiser HD540 Reference Gold , I've wanted a pair of these for a long time and picked up a pair at mate's rates and I'm a very happy bunny

If you're in to very vintage hifi, best not to watch one particular episode of Money For Nothing from last autumn.

This had an old large speaker unit in a battered wooden box.. The speaker unit was thrown away as of no value and a light was put in the box, which was then presumably sold to some gullible fool as a fashionable item.

I was curious as to what was thrown away, so screen grabbed the bit that showed its details quite clearly and looked it up. A vintage Wharfedale W15 RS with a second-hand value of around £200 to 300 and looking in much better nick than the ones on Ebay. Even if it didn't work, these are repairable and still hold their value.

Perhaps this episode should have been called Money to Nothing.

Another lot in local auction, machinery & general section()this coming Saturday morning:
"Audiophile mega lot, Quad 22 control and power amps, Quad 33 pre-amplifier and Quad 303 power amplifier, Eddystone comms receiver 840c with instructions, valves and box of project valve amp and spares" Estimate £450 to £680. Shouldn't there be two matching power amps, e.g. a pair of 303s? I know very little about such matters, as in most things.

"Pair of scarce teak-clad Leak 2060 75cm Audiophile loudspeakers"

303 is a stereo amp. A pair would be nice (bridged) but one is sufficient

Still use my Rega Planar 3 Turntable, NAD3020 Amp and Linn Speakers, all over 30 years old .
Would love a Linn Sondek turntable and Naim amps one day!

By chance, I've also got a 'Rega Planar 3' turntable, with a Creek 4040 Amp & also, Royd Coniston speakers.

Bought them ALL as 'separates' (recommended), by "Graham's Hi-Fi" in Islington, after extensive demo's

That was back in 1986, so, I guess some folks (here?), will regard them (all), as 'vintage' ?

We sold our Maisonette back in 1987 & one of the guys who turned-up (viewing) wouldn't stop "ranting" about it - (laughs !)

Made the GRAVE error of taping the lid down w/packing-tape - Only to find a few weeks later that it HAD stained the lid.

I laughed when I first bought it ("Planar.3"), as you're supposed to spin-it first, to help the motor get up to speed.

For those unaware - This is purely because the (Heavy), turntable IS solid glass, mucho-thick & weighs an absolute ton !

Years back, I did bookmark a replacement drive-belt (rubber-band), but have NO idea how much they cost (belt), nowadays.

I replaced the belt on my Planar easily and relatively cheaply from a seller on Ebay.

Ha, I wuz rather hoping you'd provide me with an exact link, rather than just the 'main' generic E-Bay website.

Bit ironic for me, as I've been on there a lot lately, but, browsing & buying tools, polo-shirts & suchlike.

I've even had a 1/72 scale Supermarine Walrus (diecast) delivered, alas, with a 'broken' tailplane - (I can glue it back on)

Only gave £10.00 for the WALRUS model and (sadly) £4.50 'signed-for' postage - still cheap, mind.

Am guessing (without looking), that the slender 'rubber-belt' for the Rega Planar.3's drive, will be double that ?

Meantime, here's the neat li'l WW.II Supermarine WALRUS that's just been delivered (10-mins ago) - (well, "if" the pix come out ?)

I can't find the exact seller but it was the red silicone belt that fits several other turntables, there are plenty listed
