Manage to get to Asda today and a woman in front of at the tills spent over £300 on shopping. I hope she's sick.
since going to the shops is a pain in the snow. Plus local shops are less able to re-stock because deliveries become more difficult.

So why don't they use the local shop everyday?Definitely agree with this.
Our village shop has had a run on milk because loads of people can't get 7 miles into town to work and the delivery lorries can't get up the hill!
maybe she works for an old peoples home and had to get enough food to feed a number of elderly residents just because people spend a lot of money doesn't mean its all for them
If our shop was open before 9 and after 5, I'd gladly support it...but as it's not and I work full time, they don't see me very often. So why don't they use the local shop everyday?

The local shops here are open 8am-8pm and the other is 7am-11pm but I don't use them all the time as they are a lot more expensive than asda or tesco. Its a simple case of going somewhere with more choice and cheaper prices. We do use the local shops every now and again but its easier to get everything we want from the large chain stores.
But if you do not use it a bit to give it some support it will not be there when you do want it.
I buy a few bits in the local shop even though it costs a bit more. You have to count in fuel cost to go further to the supermarket.
It stands to reason that the small shop has not got the economy of scale to match the big shops prices but it save travel time and is a great asset for a community. Worth going there if you can.
Think if all the set price things (magazines papers etc) that the supermarket is then ripping you off on as they are not charging less than the little shop.
Use it or lose it I suppose.
It's a shame the local shops are disappearing, ours did too - mind you that's because I torched it. Rip-off bastard.
