Another blue badge question for you. Is it true that anyone with a blue badge can park in your disabled bay outside your house? If so,surely it defeats the object of making your distance from your house to your car as short as possible? For example, the blue badge holder could come home to find another blue badge holder in their space and then have to park a fair way from their home. This is supposition all based on whether the answer to my question is yes, of course.

It's not "yours" unless it has been specifically allocated to a vehicle.
This is what i meant. So a disabled bay outside a private residence for example is most likely to be designated for the owner of that residence, whereas a disabled bay outside some shops will be there for anyone who has a blue badge to use?

Most disabled spaces, whether in commercial or residential areas, are not allocated.
Well that takes me back to my point about them not being much use if you can't safeguard the one outside your house. Ok,it'll stop non blue badge holders parking there, but on the other hand it'll attract other blue badge holders to park there, wouldn't you agree?

That's the same as it would be for any car user - If you want guaranteed parking, buy or rent a house that has some. when it comes to disabled drivers or apssengers, one isn't any more important than another because they just happen to live nearby.

I've stated elsewhere that we should have a system like Tokyo - if you can't prove you have off road parking, you're not permitted to buy a car unless it's a tiny Kei car. This idea that our roads and, even worse, footways are some kind of convenient parking resource boils my wee wee.

But the road outside your house isn’t yours...
Then a blue badge scheme outside a private residence is only about 80% affective,i'd say. Given that 20% of cars are "disabled" cars, you have a 1 in 5 chance of coming home to find someone else's car in the disabled bay outside your house. I suppose it's better than nothing, but it just seems daft that they'd put a disabled bay outside your home if you have a blue badge, but anyone else who has a blue badge can park there as well.
