Good luck Joe.
Only new year resolution I ever kept was December 31st 2104 switching from baccy to vaping.
Baccy went to £13-99 for 50gms (£20-99 today) and I was getting through 150gms a week in my pipes.
Nephew gave me a vape pen for Christmas and that was OK.
Upgraded quick to a mod and tank setup and those work best for me.
Kit costs excepted the juice costs me £1 for 10mls online from LiQuid plus postage and I buy 30 bottles a time as postage is the same for big or small orders. These guys.... https://www.onepoundeliquid.com/
I get through about 30mls a week.
Reckon to be saving £50+ a week these days compared to smoking baccy.
Can't say I've noticed any health positives from vaping , seem to be much the same as I was on the old pipe.
I never smoked fags.

Vaping hasn't been around long enough to identify any long term health implications.
It may, or may not, be better for you than tobacco smoking; it's too early to tell.
One thing is for sure; smoking anything will have some adverse affect on health.

Aye early days yet for vaping.
Thing is, at my age; 'long term implications' aren't quite as alarming as they might be to others who are not so long in the tooth.

I use those type of e-cigs. They are discreet and fairly cheap to run; you can usually pop the cap off the top of the cartridges and refill them up to 10 times. After a while they start to degrade, so will start to taste burnt and nasty, and might leak, so that's time to use a new cartridge. They are quite pricey if you throw away the empty cartridges each time, you'll get through 1 a day I expect. The claim that "one refill = 20 cigs" is fairly accurate, but it's not based on the number of puffs. With an e-cig you can just have a few puffs at a time, when obviously with a real cig you're mostly going to be smoking the whole thing at once.

The battery is also small, so expect to charge it at least once a day. Mine is only 180 mAh and I charge it 2 or 3 times a day.

For £58 though I'd expect it to come with at least 25 refills. That looks very pricey. The cheapo ones I buy from the local hardware store are £7.99 for 5 refills. The battery and charger pack (and 2 refills) was also £7.99. I hope you get on well with them, but to be honest I would not pay that price for them again. That charger looks identical to my old one which ceased to work after 6 months. The cheaper ones are virtually identical.

Most people who vape will recommend upgrading to the pen style ones, and then to the "mods" which belt out massive plumes of vapour. They are extremely nice but very expensive to run. Plus they are not discreet at all. The pen style ones I have tried 3 different types and did not get on with any. So if your little e-cig suits you, I'd stick with it, and remember to buy your own e-liquid and refill as many times as you can and you'll save a lot more money.

I have no cravings for real cigs now, but of course I'm still consuming nicotine. Mentally, I'm still an addict and I hate it.

Thanks for the replies. I've ordered the kit I did because it gets very good online reviews, but as a £35 a week man on cigs it will have paid for itself in a fortnight so it will cost nothing to experiment with different systems to find one that suits. I'm fairly hopeful of making it work because of the positives from all I know who vape, so fingers crossed.

It is not a prelude to giving up however, as I do like smoking.

Actually there are a lot more things that are for sure; Health professionals are largely agreed that vaping is less harmful than smoking to some extent, most think it could be a large extent. It's being formally passed and prescribed by many health authorities as a tobacco replacement therapy, so I think that tells you how convinced they are that it's at the very least somewhat better. It's just not known yet exactly how much less harmful it could be. You're right at least that it's not been around for long enough yet to completely rule out longer term effects, so no full-on green light by any means.

But consider that in vapour there's virtually none of the 43 carcinogenic compounds found in cigarette smoke, so no tar, no carbon monoxide, no ammonia, etc etc. Only one (nicotine) is present in both, and even then you can get quite a popular e liquid that has no nicotine.

So if someone has trouble giving up altogether and this is the alternative to continued smoking of 20 or 30 cancer sticks a day, I think you have to be pretty pessimistic to say this is not a better option.

They are not at all expensive to run, buy maybe, but if you do your research and buy a tank with a coil design that can easily be rebuilt that save 10 quid every 2 or 3 months in my case. In the last 6 months I've spent £40 quid. A bag of cotton wool and some titanium wire to rewind coils + enough ingredients to make a litre of juice which i have still have 80ml left. Admittedly making juice is now more expensive now you can't bulkbuy nicotine, but I bought enough to make another 2 litres before TPS came in. Now you have to buy 15 small bottles to make a litre of juice in my strength.

@Smokin Joe , when can we expect to see a change of username and avatar..

I agree. It's probably the lesser of two evils. Time will tell.
But the best option is not to smoke/vape anything.

In between here and there
So you vapers out the in CC land, especially the ones using "mods" can you tell what is the obsession with generating plumes and plumes of exhaled vapour? It must be a factor of 20-30 compared to a draw on a fag?
