I'm lucky.
I have one 3 mins walk from my house (Fudges, Epsom). The technical guys in particular are very good.
I also have Pearsons in Sutton 10 mins from work, which is excellent.

I like my LBS. They've either employed the friendliest people in Taunton or they've got an excellent customer relations training course. Not long after I bought my bike, I was in town and a chap smiled, said hello and asked how I was - it took me a moment to place him, but he worked at the LBS. Top stuff.

That is fantastic. The chap who runs mine recognises my voice over the phone

Ditto for me, Pearsons superb but I don't much like Fudges to be honest, they are always utterly disinterested when I go in (and a friend had a very similar experience).

Corridori at Driftbridge also seem excellent (where my Bianchi is coming from)

I have bought a few bikes from JE James over the years for kids etc. I am due there on Sunday to drop off my Hybrid and daughters bike for 6 week checks, service has been ok at best when I have been, will report back after our rides over the weekend. I'm taking the Focus over my local big lump ( hopefully) tomorrow

Yeah I know what you mean, the friendliness and customer service (especially the manager) could do with some work.
The technical guys are really good though, especially the one with the big wooden earrings.

i use my local bike shop Adkins in wellingborough for lots of stuff very usefull and always polite and helpfull .

currently re bearing an elderly Phillips frame along with re hubbing a pr of wheels for it , should be ready to collect 2moro .

must admit they only sell BSO'S cant understand why they dont do a line of re prepared older bikes as it would keep them busy during quiet times .

I went to my LBS to get a bottom bracket as the price in thier catalogue was not far off online places. At the till I was charged £8 more! When i questioned this 40% hike I was told 'thats our online price, its different in the shop overheads and all that'. Cue me leaving promising never to go back again.

I did that with Settle cycles when I first moved here. The owner was a real miserable git. When it changed hands, I went back to getting stuff from them - I got on quite well with the new owner. Sadly he didn't keep up with CRC and Wiggle (one shop, one back room, 2 or 3 staff - much smaller), so folded.

There's something to be said about using your LBS. I broke a spoke on the way to work last night, so popped in to my LBS this afternoon. Not only did the lad who works there replace the spoke and true the wheel there and then for me he didn't charge me a penny and even gave me a discount on a couple of inner tubes.

Abso blooming lutely... my LBS upgraded my mechs to Deore for the cost of the difference RRP between the stock Alivios and the upgrades, did the labour free, chucked the Alivios in as a freebie, and did the same with my fork upgrade.

And they had the taste/politeness to compliment me on the two-tone colour scheme that I had forced onto the bike as a result!

Great blokes.

I'm feeling a little jealous of some of you! I only have a MALBS (miles away lbs - min 23 miles) On a recent trek I found my favourite so far Pedal Revolution in Norwich 52 miles each way though.... The guy was friendly & helpful & the shop was full of shiny things which is all I ask for! Luckily, as a 'White van girl' I pass a fair few bike shops on my travels so I often check others out. Quite frankly I'm surprised that some are still in business going on how little they stock & how long they manage to ignore me! What ever has happened to good ole manners??

I have one 5 minutes walk away which tbh I find intimidating. A lot of the bikes are 4k plus. However the next closest Rick Greens in Handforth is great. They are a family run business always happy to advise, quite often give a discount and tend to chuck in smaller items for free. I would thoroughly recommend them.
