dEUS (well, outside Belgium they are underrated...)

I've seen them live twice at festivals. Didn't move me. Everyone was running round saying 'ooh, they're an amazing band and they come from BELGIUM / HOLLAND / whereever!'... as if that were a good thing.

They reminded me of that band Stiltskin, from the levi's ad.

Were they from Belgium as well then? ;)

Very funny. I've seen them a couple of times, once back in 1991 in a very small venue when they were one of the best live bands I have ever seen, and once with their newer line-up a couple of years ago in Edinburgh. Their new album is dull and they should probably call it a day, but I defy you to listen to The Ideal Crash or Pocket Revolution and think they sound like Stiltskin.

Zita Swoon, another band formed by one of their original members are also great.

The Stranglers. Although the band have done well, they could of done a lot better. However, if your going to handcuff journo's to the top of the Eifel Tower or get them pissed by forcing bottles of booze down their necks or kicking in the BBC doors, it might not help.

Odd as this sounds, I'd nominate AC/DC. They're a much cleverer band than they get credit for - listen to the interplay between the two guitars on "Powerage".

The other thread got me thinking. Are The Kinks the best band England, or at least London, ever produced? From the short-sharp blasts of garage mod rock of their early days through their swinging sixties social satire to the wonderfully self-mocking nostalgia of albums like Village Green Preservation Society and Arthur... ok, so they did go all MOR in the 1970s, but that doesn't diminish what is a massively underrated body of work.

Northside. One of the very best Madchester-era albums (Chicken Rhythms) yet inexplicably, no-one bought it.
