... Some of them were likeable cheats (Ullrich, Basso ...) and some were not (Armstrong, Ricco ...) but they were all still cheats! ...

Personally I was a Ullrich fan back in the days, but I always thought that Armstrong was much more loved? For me, it was probably the underdog thing, like Rominger vs. Indurain (never took to Basso though)

By the way, ColinJ... hope everything is fine with you now (and will stay so for a long time)

It's only Ullrich that used the word "partner" in connection with some piccies he posted on his own website of him in Rapha clobber. As far as Rapha are concerned he just likes their kit - there's no formal partnership. So breathe easy, you can continue to indulge your love of all things rapha!

Doping's bad, and I'm glad they're trying to clean up.

But everyone was doping back then, so, with the exception of Lance and his piety, I don't think the doping past diminishes the achievements of any of the greats of that period, and I continue to have fond memories of great racing and the legends of that era, Big Mig, Rominger, Riis, Cipo, Marco P, Dufaux, Olano, Chiapucci, Abdu, JaJa, etc etc etc

a doper starts wearing cycling clothing, now people don't want to wear it or buy it - what is this world coming to

That link seems to have gone and I can't see the story. Hard to imagine that Rapha would actually team up with Ullrich. For a start I doubt they do it in his size now.

"Formal partnership" or not, it's typical for clothing labels to want a prominent credit for any kit they supply for a photo shoot, so I assume that's the deal with the Ullrich pics.

It's weird though. If you look at the pics, they're clearly "in the style of" Rapha's own shoots on their own website, so Jan is clearly trying to strongly suggest a "formal partnership".

Don't see what this has to do with Team Sky though. It's completely irrelevant.

On the contrary, it completely diminishes the lot. I have very little respect for the majority of said "legends" as each and every one of them that took anything stronger than caffeine contributed towards bringing the sport to within a hairline of death. There is a certain salvation for those who have come out to try and restore their names and the name of cycling, but the rest can burn in the history books.

Jan's cool, Jan's funny, but he's a fraudulent cheat and therefore endorsing Jan gives off the impression that the said company is also endorsing/ forgetting/ignoring the dope.

Sorry, I see where you're coming from and fair enough, but we're going to have to agree to disagree...

Yep, of course there are bound to be more than a handful of different opinions on the matter, all of them with a valid enough claim.

It's just a shame that such a profound company chooses to indulge in somebody so prevalent in the lance era, when there are so many other idols out there with little attachment to such a murky past.
