Well, it's a bit of a daft hill to put your flag on. The average weight of a family runabout is about 2000kg for an EV. Probably a bit less for an ICE although at the top end you get the 1900kg Range Rover. 2700kg plus is strictly the luxury willy waving category. In 2021 there were only 2 EVs over 2700kg.

There are more now but they tend to be things like the EV Hummer, the Tesla Cybertruck, Volvo EX90, Merc EQS SUV 450,500 and 580, Rolls Royce Spectre, that fugly BMW etc. Hardly family runabouts.

I didn't choose an extreme weight. My ex's Landy, the Range Rover, Land Cruiser, are the archetype for this sort of vehicle. I'd guess the , Nissan or Dihatsu equivalents, the Disco, or the big Audi / Beemer pretend off roaders would be there or thereabouts, never mind daft things like the Humvee

No, because an estate car didn’t fulfill my requirements and has been rather pointedly pointed out to you would’ve not been as safe FOR OTHER ROAD USERS. My SUV is smaller, more fuel efficient (it is a hybrid), has less emissions, and is safer for myself AND OTHER ROAD USERS than the estate it replaced. Before the Americans used the term SUV it would’ve been called a CAR.
My CAR has been developed and tested by NCAP for both driver safety, pedestrian safety, cyclist safety and other road users. Because you’ve got a bee in your bonnet about “Chelsea tractors” you’re spreading your paint brush too wide.
We’re not going to agree here so I’ll take my leave. But trust me if anyone try’s to ban SUVs manufacturers will just start making cars again.

Sorry to have offended, but I don't think I have said `They are more dangerous for other road users.' I was just wondering why you didn't buy a smaller, more efficient, and safer hybrid estate car.

Landrover weight: 1950 to 2280 kg. E-Landrover / Range Rover 2680kg
Landcruiser weight: 2020 to 2205kg. E-Landcruiser doesn't exist yet

None of these vehicles are anywhere near your extreme weight.

Landcruiser 2620 according to Toyota
https://toyota.dreamhosters.com/pages/land_cruiser_200_new/spec.php

I think the 300
model is heavier

Rangerover 2700 give or take according to whether it's DIN or EU version of weight

The short wheelbase new shape Defender is a mere 2300kg

I don't know where you are getting your figures from

Tesla cybertruck 3,000kg to 3100kg.

Even an impact at 20mph must be near unsurvivable for a cyclist nor pedestrian.
Lucky it happens to be a contender of 'ugliest vehicle ever released'. A small life saver.

Don't worry. It's not being released in the UK

That's a diesel vehicle which isn't heavy enough to fit into your category.

Google.

So we have demonstrated that diesel engine cars are too heavy. I thought your point was EVs are even heavier?
None of these cars are family runarounds.

I thought the thread was about so called SUVs which for me, the Rangerover, landrover, Land Cruiser type vehicle is the archetype;

The "family runarounds" point is that people are buying them for that purpose, the "Chelsea Tractor", rather than as sensible working vehicles for farmers or towing horse boxes or small diggers and the like

I happened to pick a diesel vehicle, but I'd be supprised if a load of batteries are lighter than an IC engine be it petrol or diesel

Back in the day a normal mid sized family car was under a tonne. Nowdays even a modest hatch back is a tonne and a quarter. My own (too big and far too heavy) Saab is 1700kg, and yet people are trundling around in 2.5 to 3t off road vehicles to go the shops and take their kids to school and think this is remotely sensible.

It's quite telling that having visited various cold countries (in winter I might add): Norway, Canada, Iceland, most of the vehicles are normal 2 wheel drive cars, (with the right tyres), not 4x4 behemoths which would superficially seem sensible for such places. Only farmers or emergency services seem to have much need for such things

Well, it is if it's an EV due to the battery weight. I tend to agree with you about the range rover crowd. It always makes me laugh when they negotiate their way down the country lane to my daughters school and get "stuck" because they won't run a tyre off the road into the mud.

There was a classic letter in the Cheltenham local paper. "We need a 4x4 because we live in the Cotswolds", seemingly thinking it was a bit like crossing the Gobi Desert !

And I too have seen Rangey and Disco owners terrified of getting mud on their tyres so normal vehicles can't squeeze past

As an aside, here is a very cool 4x4. They never officially imported one, so only made in LHD. I have never seen one in the flesh

Twice the power of a standard 2CV too

I should probably add this this is a real factory vehicle, not an enthusiasts modification, nor is it a photoshop either. Good redundancy too. If either engine or gearbox goes wrong you just stick that gearbox in neutral (having disconnected the gear linkage to the failed half) and drive home with the other.
