This reminds me of some shenanigans at a golf club I was a member at years ago

The rule (always loads of rules at golf clubs) was shorts with knee length socks only...a la "It ain't half hot mum".

Younger dudes like me considered this ridiculous so used to get regular socks and yank them up our calves as far as possible so as not to offend the old timers. Once out of sight, down they came

I imagine the opposite here...less than 50% when you set off...then yank them up when the commisaire isn't looking
