My TCR has Giant P-SL1 sticky tyres on it as standard . I was considering putting Gatorskins on it as they have puncture protection ( although not that great IMHO ) but was told not to bother .
While surfing the net I notice that the Gatorskins are lighter than the Giant tyres , only by 5g per tyre but they have the added PP .
Knowing absolutely nothing about tyres I thought I would ask the opinions of those that do .

Only anecdotal but I've had a Conti GP4000S on my front for the last 2-3000 miles with only one puncture despite a relative lack of puncture protection. Still seems to have plenty of life in it. Prior to that I had specialised all condition tyres. There was a noticeable difference in acceleration so the bike felt much livelier and more enjoyable to ride. Also more comfortable over rough tarmac (running on the same pressure) and greater confidence cornering. My only regret is I'll never feel that immediate (and relatively) cheap improvement to my bike's handling/acceleration again.
Conti 4 seasons on the rear btw.

GP4000s have puncture protection, in the form of a vectran belt. It's good protection, but they're not cheap so I'd rather use some cheaper tyres for riding through the winter. I use 25c wire bead Conti gatorskins on my winter Road bike.
