After a 50km ride I found this when i reached home.
Tyre images

Nothing busted as of now, but how bad is this ? Would this get worse ? This is a new bike
These are Hutchinson Equinox 650c x 23c, hardly ridden 500 km

It seems the actual fabric under the rubber is not damaged, if so it should be fine - see Sheldon.

Sheldon may well be right - but it does depend on the definition of "small" where he says "Small punctures in the tyre such as are typically caused by nails, tacks, thorns or glass slivers are also harmless to the tyre". There are two slits in the tyre on your photo. The smaller of the two IMHO is "small". The larger of the two isn't. For the cost of a replacement tyre - I personally would play safe and replace it.

One of those cuts is quite deep and the carcass is visible.

You'll be okay for now on short rides, but I wouldn't go too far from home with that tyre.

There are plenty of good replacements in the £10-£15 range so it's worth replacing.

It's a matter of probability - with the "smaller" cut you have less chance of contacting another sharp piece on the same spot. With the bigger slice - I don't think it is dangerous but you stand a greater chance of getting a puncture.

That looks pretty big to me, I would expect that slit to fill up with those sharp little stones that eventually work their way through to become a puncture. I would keep riding with it initially and then get rid of it when you are getting regular punctures in that area.

I would also keep a close eye on it to check it is not getting bigger. In any case I would be scouring the internet now for the inevitable replacement so that you get a tyre at a good price, without having to pay the RRP in an emergency.

Have you thought of putting superglue in the slit and using that tyre on the front (less hassle if it does go flat

), prior to replacing when finances/ repeated flats dictate ?

Any compromise to the tyres structure, then now order new ones. You can 'boot' it, but its time to get new.

I've had fairly new tyres get compromised... time for new. A six month old Conti 4 Season is a cost.

Don't ever compromise on the bike you use for high speed descents.
