Tyre repair

I had a similar thing happen to a Marathon and stuck a patch over the cut while out touring/camping only intending it to be a temporary thing. It was still there 4 years later when I finally wore the tyre out.

Are you sure there is nothing sharp embedded in the tyre around the cut?
