It's not very intelligent, it thinks I'm the bestest cyclist ever.

So far, the free option hasn't troubled me with such crap. I'm still mildly irritated at the the term 'athlete', describing me.

At least it was not 'elite athlete'! :okay:

I had a doctor describe me as an 'elite athlete' on several occasions... This was when I was 56 years old, overweight, unfit, and three quarters dead from blood clots!

Apparently, anybody who can ride a bike at 20 km/hr for more than 5 minutes is someone with incredible fitness!

Trouble is, almost all of us get older and slower, so it will either tell you that less and less often and the reverse more often,
Have you tried it? It sounds like you're guessing at how it works.

It doesn't compare with distant past glory days when I was younger, fitter and quite a bit faster.
From what I see, it assesses performance by comparing with my other recent activities. That should keep feedback relevant, both now and in future.
It could do with some refinement, that's for sure. The phrasing of its feedback is simply weird, and does the feedback take different bikes into account? etc

or it's lying.
What lies?
I really don't think they've thought this "feature" through properly.
If you've tried it, you'll know there's a button to provide Strava with feedback. This assumes you want to contribute something constructive.
Are they going to drive away their longest-term users, or highlight themselves as inaccurate, shallow flatterers?
Ah, apparently you're not in a constructive mood.
