I've now got a place on the 2019 Prudential RideLondon on 4th August. I got an email offering Charity Places with NSPCC at half the usual target i.e. £200. I've taken up that offer and will now be going  Hotel booked in the usual place. Anyone else doing it?

Got an email from TimeOutDoors and followed the link https://www.timeoutdoors.com/events...il&utm_campaign=TOD190519&utm_content=feature

Not had anything from RideLondon yet so I don't know how the timing etc. will be done.

The registration is free - so that is £60 saved from the normal entry - seemed a non-brainer to me.

Thanks Norry. Since I posted last I emailed them to ask if it was still available. I’ve bulked at the price of charity places in the past. But that particular charity is one that I have a lot of time for so it makes sense to me. It would be nice to know if you could get into an early wave though. Maybe I’ll see you on the start line

Thanks mate. I entered last night but couldn’t work out what the discount code was. I’ve emailed them again now to confirm I want to pay the lower number.

Well that's probably the last irw together for my brothers and I before the ToC ride. I am being sworn at currently for persuading them to do the ride.:laugh::laugh:
Refer them to rule #5

Really looking forward to meeting up and riding with you guys next week. Could be a nice little rolling group for the early part of the ride. :okay:

Final (2nd!!) RW ride prep for ToC today. 53km, 823m climbing, ave speed 25.2kph (15.7mph) over 2hr 7mins. A little slower than my target speed, but again nearly all ascent covered in what would be first 2 hours of ToC. Was hard out there today as wind was strong - flat sections were feeling like inclines at times :B) Didn't need to stop at all, and only one small sip of water (no food at all). Yep, I'm ready for ToC :okay:

Was using Komoot to examine the ToC profile with my brother earlier. Yes there are a few long hills, but at low %'s. He now knows that the worst of the climbs are similar to Sawyers Hill in Richmond Park that he has ridden up fairly steadily quite a few time now. He has a slightly more optimistic view of the ride now

It's not how much wind there is per se, but what direction it's coming from.

The first time I did it, it was from the North/NE, which meant it was a full on headwind for that four and a bit mile long straight between Ramsey Heights and Pondersbridge, with nowhere to hide. It basically brought everyone to a screeching halt (especially me) and trying to push through it completely knackered me for the rest of the ride.

Second time riding two years later and we had a crosswind on that section - I was over 3mph faster on average over that section this time (14.6 vs 17.8), despite having gone into the ride less fit than in the first year. And I also wasn't pushing hard either while doing it, which meant I had more energy for the rest of the course - even the bits where I did have a headwind later weren't anywhere near as bad.

Luckily this year the wind forecast seems to be either from the SW or West/SW.
