Fantastic day, stupid speeds especially from Paul and Tommy. Never averaged speeds like it before. First 20 miles were something like AVE 24.5 mph and I got dropped on the hilly sections.

It has been great to put faces to names, everyone has been really nice, even Bob
I was tracking your ride towards the end and could see you over 21 mph average .... amazing ave speeds Andy :notworthy: Did you guys ride together much or was it just so busy that it ended up being every man for himself?

Was the extra man in the pic @Norry1

Yep, cracking day. First 10 miles was a bit bonkers. Good to put faces to quite a few names

Yep I'm far left in the pic.

We managed just over 9 miles pretty much together but I was blowing up at that pace - it was quite undulating. Bob, Andy and me were together in parts for quite a while, then we got separated. Bob came in 18 seconds ahead of me. I didn't know he was there or I'd have tried to catch him

You wish mate  I thought I had already crossed the sensor and slowed right down:okay:
Cracking ride though Norry given you were alone for stretches.

I think Bob was only maybe 1minute Infront at the 42 mile marker. I was with Martin in the same pack. I had decided to stop at this feed station to replenish water for 5mins. On rejoining the race. I was all alone for a few miles and my speed took a bit of a dent. Then a pack came along and I joined them.

I followed a women rider for the next 30miles, she had a great pace, also by being metronomic, not surging in her pace I was able to keep hold of this group. She admitted near the end she was pretty much done in and began to lose the wheels of others. I tried to pace her back onto the group but she had run out of energy. I subsequently lost the pack on one of the last climbs and rode in alone. Pack riding greatly increases your speed of allows rest usually, but I wasn't that fit to cruise behind riders and had to constantly work to hold onto the group.

I finished, spotted the crew, i was riding over to Tommy but my chain dropped. I jumped off the bike and instantly cramped. I couldn't walk for a few minutes. I knew I was suffering with cramp as it began to bite with 20 miles to go

Hey Randy - it’s horrible standing next to the human sunshade ain’t it !

^_^

Missed you today Berty boy! Next time...

Was a cracking day. It sounds cheesy but the highlight for me is meeting and putting faces to names. It was an absolute pleasure having a meal with Lars and Randy last night. And then meeting Martin today. My missus thinks I’m a little odd for meeting up with blokes I’ve met over the interwebz. But then she’s been with me over 12 years so her judgement is already very questionable!

Martin message me if you’re in London and fancy doing a few laps of the park mate.

Now bring on the KFC!!!

Paul and I where together most of the ride. He basically just put the hammer down from the start, and I in turn graciously agreed to hide behind him and hang on for dear life!

We hopped from group to group, Paul refusing to settle into a group and me pretending I wasn’t dying inside... then we found a group that was being lead by a few from the same club. They were putting out a really sweet pace and we settled into the pack. One minute we were congratulating each other on finding such a good group to ride in, the next minute I can see Paul making his way to the front of the group. Yep... mental... ^_^:notworthy:. Needless to say I’m far to modest to take the lime light so was happy to sit in the middle of the group and keep my head down:shy:

Anyways... the pace was RELENTLESS! Just staying mid pack was a big effort. Every corner was followed by a 50 meter sprint to rejoin and re group the pack. Sometimes new guys would join the pack and the pace rose. Other times the pack split as people tired and it was a battle to bridge the gap back to the faster guys again. It was a brilliant buzz though. Absolutely brilliant.

Next year boys?

The guy who won the sportive was over 20 minutes faster than the guy who won the actual race?

Seems odd... he’s in the 50-54 group so no more excuses from some of you old farts about your age! ^_^

I can see that I came in the top 300 of 1800 riders so that might mean I came in the top 25% of my age group. But I would imagine it’s close to be honest. Can anyone tell where they finished within their age group?
