Frame due in 30th bit annoying as it said dispatched 3 to 5 days if I hadn't had 15% off I would ordered with sigma as they have it in stock back to the bars and stem still not sure I did want the pro vibe but I need a 6 degree stem so ruled pro out what I want is some kind of semi aero compact bar with internal routing for the bar end junction sound easy ha but still no joy
I'm kind of leaning towards zipp alloy stem beyond black and they sl bars unless u can recommend any

I used to have that exact bar and stem combo on my tarmac. I still have the bars but changed to the zipp carbon stem. I really like the look and feel of them. Plus as I’m sure you know the bars only have a 70mm reach so it means you can use a longer stem than with most bars which prob average around 80mm reach. But have they updated them to allow internal routing? Spend the money you saved on the frame on some enve bars? I’m not too keen on the enve stem to be honest but that’s obv personal preference.

What’s the difference between 6 and 10 degrees in terms of added spacers do you know? Maybe 10mm? I dunno. Can you live with that? Who would of thought this stuff was so tough?!

Got to be at least 10mm plus I'm going to have to have about 20mm spacers anyway so I don't want to add anymore if I can help it
No on the all alloy bar I'll have to drill a 5.5mm hole about 4cm from the bar end

Looks like you'll be in fairly good shape if you keep up the training Randy. The full DD is very tough I have to say but if you have a comfy saddle and ride position that will make all the difference. Either of the lesser distances will be tough too, but you will finish them quicker so less pain to put up with.
I haven't paid much attention to the DD this year as I've assumed I won't be able to make it, so just looked it up and its 24th June. I'd love to try to make it to meet you and some of the others, but it'll have to be a last minute decision as it really depends on how HID is feeling. She has MS so often needs my help and support so really depends on whether she's going through a good phase or not when the time comes.
So its a maybe. Who knows, she might even want to get me out of the house by then, so fingers crossed
That would be great if you could come @BILL S , would love to meet you :okay: I understand though that HID comes first (I've managed to get a helper for the weekend to come and look after my HID so I've been lucky).

Made a boo boo this evening :banghead: Popped on to Zwift to do a warm up pootle ready for my ride tomorrow. problem was, when I logged on Stage 7 of the ToC was about to start so i thought, as it's a flat ride, I'll join and pootle with the slow riders at the back. Well, fine in principle, not so fine in practice  Ended up racing and I fear I may have burned a few candles that I will need tomorrow :B) On the road was 82 out of 216 (Zwiftpower shows me 50 out of 89 which is a bit strange).

Was on single speed, with realism set to about 40%, so was spinning like crazy, averaging a cadence of 101

Tomorrow morning is going to be interesting

Edit - I'm now 79 out of 172

I know what you mean about spacers. Honestly 30mm isn’t that much. It looks like a tower in photos but after that you forget about it. I bet most the guys here run around that much if not more. But... I know what you mean... You want it as slammed as possible. Slammed stems look better. And if you can slam it more buy running less of an angle on your stem rather than by compromising your fit than why not.

If it’s just a case of drilling a hole into aluminium then that’s cool. I’ve acrually drilled holes through carbon no probs so that seems like a good solution.

Regarding the bars, I got beyond black zipp handlebars from the states because they don’t or at least didn’t sell them in Europe at the time, and I didn’t want any white decals. But I’ve since discovered you can get rid of any decal on pretty much any surface with either acetone. Or if that doesn’t work very fine grit sand paper and if needed some clear coat to bring it back to its original finish. So that might be the thing to do if you want them all lacked out. Theyre really nice bars. They have a slight oval shape in the tops which makes them nice to grip.

I meant to ride stage 7 but late getting on so ended up doing a vo2 work out with no proper warm up. 4w for 5 min and then increasing by 30s every 3 min break at 2w. Fell apart on the 4th effort. Strange because first 3 were ok. So different to racing etc where you always get a bit of time to recover during an effort. Won’t be able to get out tomorrow so will try and fit in a longish ride.

Yeah, I am trying to talk myself into a less expensive, though still expensive, purchase:biggrin:
I really like my Kask Mojito but anything over 15mph and it’s bloody noisy!Especially compared to a 3y old prevail. Great ventilation though with all those holes.

I have a Mojito - I never get over 15mph so I don't have the noise problem

@kipster are you booked into the Travelodge? And is anyone going to stay the night after? Surely we need to sit around, drink beer and lie about how we smashed the hills?
I'm only in hotel the night before as have to get home to wife after the ride. We could only get someone to look after her the one night. Not looking forward to the drive back given how tired my legs will be

well after todays ride struggled 60 ish 4000ft+ done me, ill never get around the 130 miler with 12000ft so it set in stone now im doing the 95 but for me I can do the elbow any time its 1 of my 60 routes I do
@rob01792 I rode 9 km and 200 metres of climbing less than you today and only 14 minutes faster. Your average speed was 14.6 whilst mine was 14. Like you I know the 130 would be too far, but as last year I think I'll be hanging on to your coat tails at the DD :okay: I do feel OK so could have carried on (*caveat below!) but I think for the DD my target is an ave speed of 14 mph so a moving time of 7 hours.

*caveat - todays sportive included the Gold Hill Challenge. Gold Hill is the old Hovis commercial cobbled street. Very steep (averages 21% over 200 metres). There were about 100 spectators cheering people on. I got to about 15 metres from the top, where someone was walking up. I pulled right to get round him, kind of lost my concentration, lost my balance and had an epic fail. Right foot was still clipped in and I couldn't unclip. Fans still clapping which, to be fair, wasn't much help. thankfully someone did come over in the end, picked the bike up off me and helped me unclip and I could walk up the last few metres. Then realised there was a photographer at the top  I think I may make it onto the website as the idiot who didn't know when to stop :B) Oh well, only a little blood and good fun :giggle:

We can only hope you make the website mate!

Seriously well done though. Tons of climbing!
Was a really nice ride. Had to bail and walk up the steepest hill on a 17% section (in addition to Gold Hill) - I almost made it to the top but bailed about 50 metres short which was annoying. I think I talked myself out of it and convinced myself I couldn't get up. Once past the steep bit it continued up for another 1-1.5 km and this was Ok, so in hindsight I think I should have made it. There were others walking already (and behind) and I think this convinced me it was OK to walk :banghead: There were two other long hills a bit later and I stayed on the bike for these so very pleased.

I do know I have some more fitness I need to gain before the DD though to make it easier. 4 weeks to go .... :training:
