Whoever writes the TV summaries on Virgin media's TV guide, terrible habit of not completing them, even when you press 'i' for more info.

As an example, they'll write an episode guide for Dr Who and typically they'll read like :

'The Doctor lands the Tardis and becomes involved with a plot featuring......'

Dot...dot...dot...usually nothing else!. They do this rather a lot. Plus getting the transmission dates wrong. They'll say that something was first broadcast recently when clearly it wasn't. I noted this with the 1976 drama 'Nuts in May' which one channel said was 'first aired' in 2024!!!. No, it was first screened in 1976!. Its subsequent airing was in 2024, but the very first almost 50 years ago.

Who writes this stuff?...probably an AI these days?.

When supermarkets do a shelf reshuffle.

Also what was mentioned earlier: putting credit/debit cards on phones, what happens when the card reader requires a pin and physical card to slot in?

While I will always use my phone when I can, I normally also have my actual cards with me when deliberately going shopping, and can use them if necessary.

If just out for a leisure ride on the bike, it will often only be the phone, but there are very few likely café stops round here where they don't do contactless.

When I, as a pedestrian, arrive at a pelican crossing and I push the button, why do I have to wait so long for the lights to red?

They don't ask for a PIN when using the phone because in order to validate the payment on the phone you have to pass some kind of security barrier - facial recognition, fingerprint, PIN, whatever.

Ah, thank you, I was wondering if they had a way round it. Because if they didn't you'd always have to carry your card and phone incase they ask for the pin which would be redundant. The more you know.

Yes, sometime the contactless machines will randomly ask for card and pin, but if you only have a phone you're knackered right?

I've always used my phone for payments (in the last 3 or 4 years) and have never been promted by a card reader to enter a PIN. I think it's becasue the phone App can only be installed if you have a PIN or fingerprint set up. It's easy to steal a card and then go around swiping it. But it's more difficult to steal a phone and pay for stuff because you'd have to unlock it first. That is my guess

This is NOT a trivial thing. You have as much right to use the road as any drivers do.

Yes, that's what I mean. If I am the pedestrian and I want to cross the road, when I press the button for the lights to change red (so I can cross the road), why do I have e to wait such a long time to cross?

<sarcasm>If you want to walk across the road you should have to pay road tax and get a walking license and liability insurance. Only then will you have the same priority as cars. Until then you can bloody well wait until we're done using the road, 'cuz we pay for it!</sarcasm>

Sounds familiar?

Because it’s on a timer. Just like the car ones. If it is a busy junction it may have to cycle through a few different phases.
On a basic crossing they usually change almost immediately if no one has used it recently.
