2 annoying things

a) we went out for a meal to a very nice local restaurant - which was not as good as expected!
They put paprica on my wife's chips - and she can;t cope with spice like that - plus the chicken was rather dry
on top of which I suspect my Pasta was dried ratehr than fresh as you would expect in an Italian restaurant

b) while we were eating I suddenly realised it will be Christmas soon
:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
(sorry to bring up the "C" word so soon)

Printed tickets for a rail trip instead of e-tickets on the app. It's the same journey, timings & rail company as used many times before so why printed ones this time?

This "printed at home" thing is a scam - IMO
basicallt they want to email you the tickets - or you get them "on the app" and then print them yourself

which means they have to spend zero money themselves printing them out

it is made to be something that is done for your convenience
is it bu****y - it is a cost saving - reduces their costs and you half to do half their work for them

Someone round here was fined the other week for not having a train ticket - she had proof of it on her phone but apparently should have printed it out before she travelled
OK - it probably said that in the app somewhere - but who the hell prints stuff out from their phone??

personally I keep a small B&W laser printer around so I can print stuff - but half of what I print is stuff that I would normally expect someone to either print for me or stuff that could be just done online!!

I could go on about it

as my wife can testify!

Is that a Mersey rail thing ?
Must be living in the past.
About five years back we walked the Sandstone Trail and had to get the train back home.
Station didn't have any ticket facilities so we could do it on the phone and just show that to the guard. Easy enough.

Ridiculous that Mersey rail want printed tickets.

Northern have a similar policy.
Whether the guards scanner is working or not seems to be the deciding factor in paper or phone used as proof of purchase prior to travelling.

I haven't had that problem. When the scanner wasn't working they just looked at my phone screen and were happy with that.

The website says that printing is optional. I used to do it in case of phone problems but on longer trips I would be carrying my Android tablet as well as the phone so now I just download the etickets to that for backup.

More of an irritating 'we know what you want, you don't' type of thing from Amazon.
Decided I need a new hairbrush and as I have certain ethical standards, I put in 'synthetic bristle hairbrush' as my search. :okay:
No matter how I adjusted the search criteria, I was subsequently bombarded with oodles of hairbrushes made with hog / boar hair bristles.
As the vast majority of hog / boar hair comes from the Far East, it's virtually impossible to claim that it's 100% ethically harvested.
I did buy a guaranteed synthetic badger hair ( from plastic badgers - !) shaving brush a couple of years ago and it certainly outperforms any of the other brushes I've had. :okay:

Years ago I got a national express "funfare" ticket to London Heathrow (£14), intending to then get a normal ticket to Luton (where I was at Uni). However, on arrival at Heathrow I was told by the driver that I wasn't allowed to get off and had to continue to London Victoria. Even though dozens of people were getting off at Heathrow and he was getting all of their bags out anyway. So I had to continue to Victoria and get a bus back to Heathrow to change for Luton. Utter madness. And I had an e-ticket; back in the day when they weren't that common (2000/2001) and the driver always used to sigh and huff when I produced the print-out, as they normally had to write it down or do something "manual" with it

That's probably the most effort anyone has put into going to Luton.

If your ticket was to Heathrow, then what possible right did the driver have to tell you that you couldn't get off?

And without using illegal force, how was he going to prvent you anyhow?

took mini ck 1 to hospital for appointment at the reanl clinic at derby
Had to drop her and mrs ck off and park in aldi across the road as it was literally one in one out to get in. next time i think it will be easier to take the bus.
Mini ck 1 took so long nattering on about b all to the various people in the hospital we had to get FIL to pick up mini ck 2 from school as we were late .
On the way back a twollop on a motorbike overtook and forced me to brake as the rider squeezed into the gap and then on a bend the car coming the other way was so far over we clipped mirrors scratching mine and afaik ripping theirs off.
Letter from college mini ck 1 form for college work placement filled in wrong
letter about old life policy i had to contact them , i dont remember it but as i cant prove it me because i dont know the exact age i will retire they cant help me even though i passed all the other checks and quoted the the reference number on the letter.
Had planned to do job around the house today but have had a tired headache all day 😣

There are lots of silly travel rules like that...

I once had split rail tickets to get from Coventry to Hebden Bridge via Littleborough. I had one ticket from Coventry to Littleborough and another from Littleborough to Hebden Bridge. The guard on the train that I caught told me that my tickets were not valid because it didn't stop at Littleborough. I said that I wasn't getting off at Littleborough anyway, but he informed me that I had to be able to even though I didn't want to!

He let me off with a warning but said that he could have made me buy a full fare ticket from Manchester to Hebden Bridge and he would if he caught me doing it again!

I thought it sounded complete crap, but checked when I got home. Yes, he was right...

Stupid National Rail rules said:
For example, if there is a train that travels from

Station A > Station B > Station C

you could buy a ticket from

Station A to Station C

or you could buy a ticket from

Station A to Station B and another ticket from Station B to Station C.

Your start and end points are the same, but you might be able to get a cheaper fare by splitting your tickets. Remember, the train must stop to drop off and pick up passengers at the station where you split your tickets.

Generally, you don’t have to leave the train when using split tickets, unless the journey already includes a change.

If the journey crosses London e-tickets are not available as they cannot operate the London Underground barriers.
