Those ones are legal.

The 3d effect ones aren't, because the produce the effect by having different colours.

But the actual 3d (or 4d as they are often called) are legal so long as the characters are coloured uniformly in a single shade.

Yes, so do I - time that is, decimal coinage came in when I was 9, so I never think of D as pence.

Here's a link to Surrey Road Cops who prosecute the offence and advise against fitting such plates, even if they show the relevant BS marking.

It appears the plates cannot be tested for abrasion because they are too thick to fit through the testing machine therefore they are not compliant. They also cite the offence of some letters not being readable 'off angle'.

The bigger problem is that they're often quick to soften; so their natural foil wrappers are better than the biskit barrel for preserving optimum texture, as nature intended.
