personally I wouldn't live without a dishwasher anymore - and that was true when I lived alone!

Some people just churn out things to be washed up!

When a particular friend comes to stay, I can guarantee that within 4 or 5 hours there will be 6 or 7 spoons in the washing up bowl. Why? Because, for example, the previously used teaspoon was 'dirty' (having been used to make just 2 mugs of tea!) so a 'clean' one had to be used next time. Similar situation for plates, bowls etc.

I normally use just one knife, one fork, one spoon, one bowl, one plate and so on. Each item gets quickly washed after use and reused next time. I have no need for a dish washer. The house had one already installed when I moved in. I used it for storing cycling stuff! It never got used as a dishwasher in 5 years so I ended up giving it away and putting a washing machine in its place.

Ok, on the rare occasions when I have a few people round there would be a significant amount of washing up to do, but that would only be 15 minutes work 2 or 3 times a year.

I'm going to try that...! 🤣🤔🤣🤔🤣

The dishwasher is probably the same size as a standard cupboard so you could take it out and put a cupboard in its place
Of course, you would 'need' to find a matching door.
Or replace the dishwasher with a slimline one and a narrow cupboard - maybe.

I can't because it isn't my kitchen, unfortunately, and if I took it out I'd have nowhere to put it anyway.

I don't generate that much washing up and I don't have sufficuent plates to fill the dishwasher anyway.

I've used our dishwasher to finish off cleaning bike parts (best to really rinse off the Gunk or it'll smell) and also washed the gravel & plastic plants from the aquarium.

The washing machine, set on 20°c with a bit of non-bio liquid brings tyres up a treat!

Delivery drivers who leave £300 of Ring cameras on floor outside front door. But leave message that it was handed to a neighbour.
I suppose he could have handed it to neighbour and they put it on doorstep but our Ring doorbell doesn't show that just driver walking back to van and driving away.

Poor design.
Case in point, my current flat which I suspect the architect spent about 30 seconds sketching out, has a tiny kitchen with very few cupboards and a dishwasher that would do for a family that entertains every day. Result: I have to stack glasses and plates next to the dry foods and I don't know what the inside of the dishwasher looks like.

Why not store the plates and glasses in the dishwasher if you're not using it and leave the cupboards for foodstuffs?

In my married days I'd use a different teaspoon for each cup of tea or coffee I had. After 5 years of living alone, with household standards steadily lowering year by year:rolleyes:, I now make a teaspoon last for my on average 5 brews a day. Sometimes I even use the same mug all day, just as long as there aren't any flies in my flat.

I will always use one mug for tea, and another for coffee, but each gets several uses during the day before going in the dishwasher that evening.

I use separate tea & coffee mugs because coffee tastes too strong to put tea in the mug after it.

I have tea and coffee more for the caffeine affect, rather than the taste. Sometimes I can't be bothered to pour the last mouthful of tea out ( or thinking why waste it) the mug and just chuck a spoonful of coffee in and add hot water.:tired:

I also have separate tea and coffee mugs, for the same reason.

I don't wash them though - a quick rinse after the drink is finished is enough to get them clean.
