I could never boil an egg

even had an argument about it at work

5 people told me it was easy and how could I be so dumb as to not be able to do it (N.B. I can cook most things)

so I demanded the method - and got 5 different ways - each of which was the only possible way!!!

Anyway - my wife has specified the correct manner which always works

First - put egg into cold water
start hob up
wait until properly boiling (the definition of which can vary the time by up to 1 minute!)
then leave for 5 minutes
take out on a slotted spoon and watch carefully - the water should evaporate in 5 seconds
any less and it need to go back in - I find 1 extra minute for every second over the 5 is slightly too much

I have never seen any other way of checking if it is hot enough at the end but this works for hard boiled but only just
I presume soft boiled would be about 3 seconds

as I don;t really like eggs like this I never do it for myself - hence not knowing the correct way to cook them

This is a pretty reliable method and doesn't require too much attention or guess work

Pan with half an inch of boiling water
Place eggs from the fridge (not room temp') in the water and cover with lid and hit the stopwatch, when steam has built up again reduce heat making sure to keep the steam up but don't use too much heat.
At 6 minutes and 30 seconds remove from heat, walk to sink and run cold water over the eggs for a few seconds to stop the cooking process.

A few seconds here or there makes a big difference but you soon get a feel for it.

Cutting through the hedge cutter lead....

The lead being just too short to finish the job so having to hunt another extension lead!

Leylandi cutting making me itch!!!

Guess my job yesterday!

Don't remind me
My ex used to cut the cord every time she used the thing - apparently it was a 'design fault'

and leylandi - yup we had those as well - always brought me out in a rash so I had to dress up in a long sleeve sweat shirt with rubber gloves over it and rubber band round the wrists
plus jeans with more rubber bands around the legs because a couple of time a sprig of leylandi got up my trouser leg and started wiggling its way up every time I moved
Only way to stop it was to take my trouser off in the middle of the front lawn!!!!!
SCARY!!!

Bottles of shampoo, shower gel, sauce etc that don't have a flat top so they can be upended to be able to use the last of the contents..

The trend here is the opposite: wide flat top and rounded "base" so you have to store them upside down.

Did that with my mower about 10 years ago, you can still see the connector block and electrical tape "repair".
And yes, twwice with the hedge trimmer- maybe I should be kept away from mains voltage.
