That doesn't answer my question though, does it!
The distance is doable, and at any time of day or year.

The question is why do we as cyclists "sell" cycling this way. It's only to cover that "sort of distance", in only the best weather.

I'll admit there are those who only want to cycle in such conditions. However in this country, it'd place a fair old limit on when you cycled.

Mis-use of 'carbon'. Your bike is carbon-reinforced plastic. Your 'zero carbon' is zero carbon dioxide. Makes as much sense as calling water dihydrogen...
I know, REALLY trivial.

Do you have any ally components? Frames maybe? Hmmm?

It was aimed at @Oldhippy, who seems to think that no matter how small cars are and how 'eco friendly' they are they are all bad!

Well they are to be honest. Everything causes some damage but cars seem to be thought of as an absolute must have at all costs by many despite overwhelming evidence of the pollution created driving, building, mining needed to create them. People seem perfectly content not worrying about future generations or the one and only planet we live on.

Yes, they are all bad.

Very occasionally we find good uses for them that compensate for the damage that they do.

The purest 'stainless steel ' is not magnetic, or very little, which is why electric guitar and bass strings are not made from it.

Apparently, IT DEPENDS!

No, because some pickups, such as those on electro-acoustics (most acoustics these day, it seems) work via a piezo element under the bridge.
But for pure electrics, then yes, steel strings are essential. Pickups for these are several thousand turns of fine wire around a magnet or magnets. This sets up a standing field. The vibrations of the steel string disturbs the field and the moving field generates a current in the coil. Just one more variation on the motor effect.
