Was this on a flattish route ???

The first half wasnae flat, but the second half only had a few hills. Overall it was less than half the climbing on this route.

Seeing the training seems to have taken on a bit of a serious twist, I am refraining from our alcohol in a bid to shed a stone or two

Somewhere flat
I fell off the wagon (the cake wagon) and put half a stone back on, in the past month
I am back to the grindstone now though, in anticipation of the hills. Aim is to drop at least half a stone, by Oct 20th!

103 pubbers the extra 16 is erm flattish.

C'mon now, are there any 'nasty' hills . . . . . . like the Devil's Staircase ?

I'm not sure which bike to bring and I'd don't want to find out out at 70-80 miles that I should have brought low gears. That is, 'normal' low gears, not Doseone's uber-low gears.

Do you reckon that I'll be okay on 36 X 26 ?

What range of gears, will you other guys be using on the day ?

Stuff the training I'll just be support driver in the car

I don't think so !

If you are there on the day, you'll be riding the full distance and the next day, you'll be pleased that you did so . . . . . . assuming you've survived it !

No !, I'm not sure that I could've got up the staircase on 36x26 . . . . . . but stop answering a question, with another question . . . I want to know, what (range of) gears the other riders will be using ?

So you will be riding . . . X x X

Hint . . . this is the kind of reply that I'm looking for . . .

Both of my 'nice' road bikes have 34/50 up front and 12-27 on the back. The Winter bike has 30/39/53 and 11-28 on the back but is much heavier, so I will probably be on one of the compacts.

How much longer ?

. . . . 100 miles ?

I will be riding my gasp, puff, oh shoot range of gears or I may be in 1st handing out drinks bottles and encouragement.

I will be riding my gasp, puff, oh s*** range of gears or I may be in 1st handing out drinks bottles and encouragement.

You could always see if you could borrow Doesone's bike; then you could smirk at those riding bikes with a higher range of gears.
