I prefer to train on the East Coast Mainline, the views are spectacular.

Seriously though I think like most folk I prefer to cycle on the road. If it has to be spinning I prefer to be at home where I can stop and start when I want (even 11pm) and not have to worry about getting home the back of midnight; plus I'm a Fifer and don't like to pay for something when I don't have to ;)

Since I moved to Ho Chi Minh I've not been able to commute to work due to a combination of extremely heavy traffic and a very poor road system in the area I need to ride. However attached to the complex where I have a flat, there is a very good and well equiped gym and so I spend at least five nights a week in there and do a minimum of one hour per night on a training bike. It has various types of riding programmed into the machine and although it is not as good as being on an actual bike I find it a good substitute. I went back to the UK last week (first time for four years) and got on my bike there (Thorn Brevet) and found that the training in the gym had kept me in good shape for actually riding the bike.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Xtrainner at home 50 min ride to work and im lucky enough to have a bike to get around work so can put a few miles in there too ;-)

When we're not out on a jolly jaunt, or preparing for a CC ride, race or whatever, where do you prefer to train?

I used to sweat too much at home on the rollers, so I prefer to spin at the gym.

Where do you train?

Well the weather's been that bad lately 12 weeks or so.

We've all moved to the Jim, we now have got a good, informal, social group going.

With a good competitive edge driven by banter and large ego’s.

Makes you do more than intended, afterwards a sauna helps with tired muscles.

It keeps you going, but it's no substitute for good road work, when will it bloody end?

Outside for me.

If I ride about 2-3 miles from home, I'm in lovely hilly & rural country. Plenty 100-150 metre climbs for interval training.

Hi All

Only been road cycling for about 6 months. Wondering best way to keep fitness up over the winter... Went out on my mountain bike last year (even in the snow/ice!), but thinking about getting a turbo trainer? What do you think?

Just a foot note, with the gym training 3 times a week.

Due to the sudden change in the weather.

I've been on a jolly 40+ miles a regular run.

Made the best time yet, so spinning regular up to 120 rpm has paid off.

Summer = 6am scenic route commute to stn in the week with longer weekend ride, time permitting

Winter = in the gym for 6.30 for an intense 30 mins on the spin bike a couple of times a week, plus longer weekend spin

plus run 10k once a week

Good effort, Zoof, to see you so dedicated to your training.

Having just moved miles away from a gym, and with poxy weather here, I'll be doing more training at home with a skipping rope, light dumbells and a Swiss ball.

Eating smaller portions will also most definitely help.
