I'd love to see you ride on Astley Road over Chat Moss on anything but a bike with suspension

That road but not that section. There's a half-mile stretch that resembles the surface of the moon. There are so many deep potholes you just have to ride straight through them. I wouldn't dare do it on a bike with suspension.

Ah, I've forgotten how to post pics direct from the hard drive......surface was all fine, the only point I though oh poo was going under the bridge past Halfords in Alty...the cobble/path interface either needs looking at or someone has nicked some cobbles.
Jumped off the bridgewater at the pub at the end of Atlantic St(cant remember the name). I met a group at Latchford locks around 16:30.....they looked hot and tired, still had to cycle to Hyde:sad:.
Good times!

You went under the bridge at Alti? Well well well-I thought it was blocked off down there. I remember trying to ride between Timperley and Alti a while back but the canal path was a quagmire.

It has dried out but I can see how it would so easily be poor as parts were quite rutted.
Fairly quiet considering the weather and time....Sale was probably the buisiest part.

Double PAH ! .....rolling 23's in red on my fixie ! When it's like this then it goes off road without a hitch  Sorry for the late start on this thread but it looks like there is nothing to add other than what everyone else has said ! Like Potsy said, stiles are a pain from Diaryhouse lane to your end but nice to ride anyway. Cannot wait till they complete the section from Stretford past the Trafford Centre, that would cust a lot of nasty roads out ! It looks like they are also starting on the tow path past Worsley going toward pie-eater central so all is bright for the route !

Is that the bit past the scrap yard (if it is still there) ??? It was always tight, crappy surface, full of crumpy fisher types, full of dog crap and other general crap till you got past Broadheath and into the green bit.I thought you were supposed to get off before there or face the wrath of walking types :cursing:

Work between Barton Swing Bridge and Waters Meeting (where the canal's three arms meet) is to start very shortly. Unfortunately though, the new towpath won't quite get up to Water's Meeting, it'll stop a few yards short.

If you want to know more, Trafford Council operate a cycling forum that meets every few months. I attended the last one, it's quite an interesting little debating chamber.

Yes that's it and I think you're not really supposed to cycle from Brooklands tram stop through to Broadheath. At one point there is that ridiculous barrier that's impossible to cycle round/through and impossible to get a pram through too.

Well, that's good. I suspect you'll have to go over the road bridge that goes over the railway to connect Bridgwater canal?

I emailed Bridgwater Way a few months ago to ask about the canal cycle extension from Stretford Marina to Manchester centre-due by 2016 if funds are available.

Strange seeing as the tow path is basically a bridal way of old ! I rode it a few years ago and some grumpy old git with a four legged crap machine scowling at the thought of a bicyclist daring to ride on his tow path !
