On another note what happens if you are caught cycling in the road tunnel in or out of Heathrow ? i guess the chances of getting caught are very slim as the commute should only take a minute

I'll believe that when I see it - I've got emails from Heathrow management going back 6-7 years promising that one or both side tunnels will be available to cyclists real soon now ...The side bores will be re-opening to cycles in the near future, lots of bits of infrastructure are in place to support this.
