TPT from Manchester >Warrington help

I have to commute to Warrington tomorrow night, normally I'd go down Talbot rd to Trafford Pk and over the swing bridge, turn left and done.....however I want to take the TPT.....I've rode from Latchford to Alty but I stopped when it reached the industrial estate.
Can someone suggest me a route from the Uni please to pickup the trail(or Bridgewater canal) to make the commute better than wacky races through Irlam/Cadishead.

If that's the one on Atlantic street then go down to the bottom and the offroad bit starts, goes towards and thru Lymm and lasts about 7 miles before it joins up with a road again.
Lots of stiles to navigate which is a bit of a pain, but worth it in this weather.
400bhp might be better advising from there, or Skud

Sorry M8 should have been clearer, I have used the route from the Warrington end(got on at Latchford Lock(inlaws live in Woolston,my destination)) to Alty so I know that section....I need a route up to there from Warrington that doesnt include Washway rd
I think it was Atlantic st, we got to the estate and about turned as I couldnt be bothered going any further and my F-inlaw was flagging.


Would the Bridgewater to Lymm, then just to the TPT be the best bet ??

Easiest to draw a map:

A - joining the Bridgwater canal in Stretford
i. Bridgwater canal, then through Timperley and join the TPT in Broadheath.

ii. Bridgwater canal, join the TPT between Stretford and Sale (longer & slightly easier to get lost).

B. join the irwell in Castlefield then link up with the Bridgwater Canal and follow Ai or Aii above

Or, instead of getting on the TPT in Broadheath, you could simply take the back roads (Sinderland Road), and either go to Warrington via Waburton Bridge (although you have to use the A57 into Warrington) or via Lymm.

Many thanks 400bhp, I think I've sorted it now, Talbot rd, jump on the Bridgewater as it crosses Chester rd, stay on there till Seamons rd, then a quick dogleg onto the TPT.
I've used Warby bridge, I'm confident of riding the whole way on the A57 but it isnt nice and with the weather like it is I think I'll put shades on and see how many flies I can consume Thanks again

think you have it Assuming you don't have a GPS, come off the canal just before the bridge (3rd excluding the motorway IIRC - half a mile before, you go through a little chicane of white poles on the path which is to slow people down outside a school) . You know you will have gone too far as the surface changes to a mud path.

My commute today is awsome(mainly because I didnt forget to take my hayfever tabs!) Rochdale canal all the way in, just a quick dash over Manchester to work, then the canal to the inlaws.....sod the roads.

I was explaining the point to exit the canal. If you don't have GPS then you'll be guessing where to exit the path. I'm staying late at work tonight (7 ish I guess) otherwise I could have cycled down there with you.

If you fancy a twistier route you can get on the Mersey near Stretford Tip. Just ride up the side of the Tip (route 62), over the footbridge over the motorway, a nice twisty little "how fast can I go here" section through the trees, and onto the Mersey. Follow that round until the A6144, then west alongside that road. At the lights at Carrington Lane, up the pavement and through the fence, south to Ashton Road (actually an old Carrington Moss tramway). Down to Sinderland Lane, then Dairyhouse Lane, and you're straight onto the old railway line to Latchford. On a day like this it'll be lovely and dry through those sections.

I've got GPS.....havent a clue how to use it apart from getting grids(all I need really), it is my biggest waste of money in the past 12months as I can mapread.
Ah, if I'm right you mean stay on the bridgewater till before the M6 then change to the TPT?
To be honest if I used Warby bridge I'd be there in 15mins, the route I'm using adds atleast 30mins but I'm in no rush to get anywhere in this weather........work till 7, I feel for you m8!

I've just put a new rear wheel on my roadie (Hope pro 3 with mavic rim) and I'm tempted to ride out on that, but equally tempting is to get the MTB out and head off up the TPW to Lymm, up the Bridgewater to Worsley, and then back to Urmston across Chat Moss. It's a long ride on an upright though...

Seriously though, on a day like today you'll love riding along the Bridgewater. I really would recommend my route (400bhp's second route) though, as once the new Bridgewater Way towpath ends south of Sale, you'll be fighting for space with millions of dog owners. The towpath effectively becomes singletrack down there.
