I really think Contador's going to light the blue touch paper soon. If he can do what he did at the Giro (or Andorra-Arcalis & Verbier in 2009) for maybe one or two days I think he could put enough time into everyone else to take yellow and keep it. Only question mark for me is whether he can do OK with very few teammates in support (Saxo don't look to be super-strong).

Think the Schlecks are followers rather than likely to take the initiative and I don't think Evans, Gesink or even Basso have the strength/speed to launch strong enough attacks to distance the opposition sufficiently.

As for Cav missing the cut at Alpe D'Huez - hope not. I wonder whether there will be two pelotons on that day - the contenders with their super-domestiques, and the rest - such that there would be so many outside the time limit that the rules have to be "adjusted", which I think can happen quite frequently if enough riders are outside the limit.

Edit to add: final thought - no way Cav is going to Sky. Would necessitate either a massive change in focus for Sky or Cav not being no.1 rider and main focus of the team. HTC works well because they like winning stages. Sky want to win the Tour itself.....

To answer the last point first: they'll need someone better than Waldo Wiggo if they seriously want a winner.

Will Contador attack today? Dunno, still think he's foxing on the knee a little, but if he's feeling good he'll go, simple as that.

Cadel: dunno, we'll see. Wouldn't suit him to be in yellow this [relatively] early in the event anyway.

Tommy Voeckler - who looks exactly like Robin Williams bastard son, will likely lose yellow, and I'd not be surprised to see Frank warming up the jersey for brother Andy

Dark horse: forget Kloden, see where Basso ends up... could be cr4p, could be solidly Top 3. Chances are the weather on the Tourmalet will play a part too.

Tour phase 2 starts today.

I reckon we could see Evans in yellow. It's too much of an ask for Voeckler to defend it. It's just a matter of how much time he looses.

Schleck the younger is biding his time, he'll just be making sure Contador doesn't get time on him (or trying to).

Excellent sprinting by Cavendish yesterday. Greipel does look strong but Cav wanted it more and won it by an absolute mile! Really looking forward to stage 12 now, hopefully there's some action!
