Toothache...

I went to the dentist today with toothache...they finally gave in to my demands and got me an emergency appointment within the hour...x ray taken...have been given two lots of anti biotics to take over next 5 days, a lecture on flossing and mouthwash, and told if that doesnt do trick then its root canal time for me...deep joy...I really dont get it..i've brushed my teeth for nearly 50 years twice a day as told...but was told i hqve high acid poss due to high stress levels....still fing hurts like heck though...bah!

May I recommend the cheap red plonk as a painkiller? 2 bottles seems to have done the trick

Get to the dentist asap !
I suffered for a long time with tooth pain and when i eventually got to one after living for months on painkillers i ended up having 4 wisdom teeth cut out and because theyhad been left so long i also lost another tooth because it abcessed with puss running from the gum.

I'm about to take pill no.1 of a 5 day course of metronidazole and also amoxicillin. Told to take both together one three times a day. This comes on top of three weeks of amoxicillin and another stronger one I forget the name of which was big egg shaped yello pills for pneumonia.
I'll take them because I dont want to loose a molar but tbh my body and mind are so sick of medication ...and the side effects..

Well, after virtually pleading with the receptionist I've been told to come in at 3.50pm and that I'll be seen sometime between then and 5.30pm.

Fingers crossed for a quick resolution, I could live without another night like last night

ok..I was thinking similar...but the dentist said do this first...are you a dentist ?

Yep, specialist in root canals, with a 2 hour cancellation so finishing a lecture for in a few weeks time :-) Tons of evidence that unless you are unwell or have large swelling ab's are not indicated.

Simon, I work in Sheffield, nope don't do NHS, sadly there is no fee for root canal treatment in the NHS system any more.

Having had a similar problem last year and taking the above advice from Endoman I can confirm that the antibiotics my dentist put me on did sweet fa but when they opened the tooth up the pain disipated within a day.

They'll get of the infection, and (probably) the pain.
Normally around the 3rd day you'll notice an improvement.
