As with many Paul did not pay for parts and hardware, he paid for the time of someone with the expertise to help him. The analogies of other professions abound. Are you paying the plumber for the pipe he fits or because he knows how to fix the leak???
Some may feel that they can tinker, adjust and fettle themselves into comfort or have such immense experience they know intuitively whether something will work for them or not...they are lucky!
I recently took my wife to get a new bike and we spent three Saturdays at the shop, trying different frame sizes, stem configurations and a whole host of different adjustment until she felt comfortable and the shop manager/fitter an felt happy to let her leave with a bike that suited her. The fitting came as part of the cost of the bike...but I could probably have got the bike cheaper on sale somewhere else. Was it worth it...bl**dy right it was! She's happy and confident the bike fits and the process she went though to measure and confirm it.
She even took her commuting bike there a week later to have him adjust that to best fit! As the mastercard advert says bike...over a grand, new shoes and cleats...a bit over a hundred, being comfortable and confident as the result of some expert help...priceless.
Good on you Paul. Happy riding and don't be afraid to go back if you feel some more miles mean some fine tuning. Your money has been, and will prove to be very well spent!
