I sweat really easily doing exercise and could just drink water constantly.. Today I only cycled 5 miles and have nearly drank 2 litres of water! It's awkward for cyling aswell having to take so much with me so is there anyway to decrease what I drink without feeling so desperate to drink it? Really feel like I'm drinking too much when I'm cycling.

2 litres in 5 miles I'd say is dangerously excessive.

Firstly, you should warm-up your body up over 5 miles which should not make you too sweaty.
Secondly, what are you wearing? maybe too much and you're getting waaay too hot - layers and remove as required.

Over 50 miles I might consume up to 2L on a really hot day at high speed. 5 miles I wouldn't even take a bottle.

I wear padded shorts and a cycling tshirt. Don't think it's possible for me to wear any less lol!

You say that you are desperate to drink the water. Do you mean physically desperate or psychologically desperate? I.e is something happening in your body to compel you to drink or do you just want to?

I have suffered physical desperation for water. I got seriously dehydrated on a sunny ride once when I first got back into cycling and ended up so desperate that I actually drank the contents of a muddy roadside puddle! If you didn't have any water with you on your 5 mile ride, would you drink from a puddle like that? I think if the answer is no, then I wouldn't say you were truly 'desperate' and perhaps the excessive drinking is more of a habit.

Anyway - do the scales test and they will tell you whether or not you really are replacing just what you lose.

I took up cycling about 4 years ago after doing little exercise for 20 years and 4 stone overweight. For the first few weeks my 2.5 mile commute would leave me soaked in sweat and needing at least a pint of water. Now I would only take one bottle on a 50 mile ride or two if it was a hot day or lots of hills.

I really think that if you are allready fit and still crave water after only 5 miles you need to go back to the doctor.

Would I drink a puddle? No because a dog has probaly peed in it or something!! I would only take water from somewhere I know is safe no mater how much I needed it.. I do have alot of other health problems and an over active bladder so I've learnt to drink only when I really need to so I would never drink unless I knew I needed it as I can't really stop and pee at the side of a road lol!

I'll see how I go in the next few weeks with drinking water

I'd have a chat with your doctor.
I tend to sweat more than most, which I'm putting down to a fast metabolism and fair skin (built for northern climate), but wouldn't need to drink anything for 5 miles, unless it was really hot and I was flat out. 2 litres is 50 miles on the hottest day of the year.
Have a good think about diet (enough salt?). clothing doesn't seem excessive, and from earlier posts I don't think that you are excessively over-weight. So in this case, I'd have a quick chat with someone who might know a bit more.

Today I made 750ml of water do me 7.2 miles. Managed to push myself further than I did last time but some of it was done on the road and I met some idiots shall we say...
