50% off is not to be sniffed at.

I usually work to either a) the "single pack of crisps" standard or b) the "chicken sandwich" standard, the former being about 85p and the latter being about £2.40 to see whether something is worthwhile taking or not.

Had some good reductions over the hols, like a kilo of beef mince for £1.76, a large lamb breast joint for a fiver and two 6kg free range bronze turkeys at £25 each down from £62. The latter were deboned, portioned up and frozen, and the carcasses boiled for stock.

Yesterday's star buy was 20kg of Maris Piper potatoes for £1.80.

Also picked up four cranberry & orange panettone for £1.37 each, down from £5.50. Not bad, when you consider that a bog-standard fruit loaf sets you back £1.65...

Oh dear, I had a snaccident...

Went for petrol, popped into Tesco for some more cranberries to stash in the freezer (cranberry & orange marmalade is bloody lovely, btw), and picked up a large pack of smoked mackerel that was 40% off and half a kilo of "finest" stilton for the grand sum of £1.58.

There where half a dozen packs, and it went in my heart to leave the others behind at that price, but realistically, I have no use for three kilos of stilton...

Had it been something like cheddar or red leicester etc, I'd have cleaned them out.

I like red Leicester.

3 packs of Asda Speciality Chipolatas, usually £3 ea reduced to 90p. Perfect for a quick cheap meal sometime.
These are nice sausages, you hardly get any fat out of them when air fried. I cooked some cheap ones the other week...crikey, that fat in them!!!!

Cheap sausages are great if you want really well-seasoned dripping... ;)

Top tip: chipolatas make really great mini meatballs if you snip them into four, and then poach them in a pasta sauce.
